Estimated Hiring Salary Range: $42,691.00 - $46,175,00 Full Salary Range: $42,691.00 - $52,670.00 Annually

Work Schedule:
This position is a floating role that covers schedules at the Landfill and Transfer Station as needed.

Schedule will vary based on staffing needs:

Transfer StationM-9:00 AM to 5:30 PMW 1:30 PM-5:30 PMLandfillT/Th 8:30 AM to 4:30 PMW 9:30 AM to 12:45 PMFri 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM

The Solid Waste & Recycling Operations Division supports Greensboro’s environmental stewardship and public health goals by managing waste disposal, recycling, and landfill operations safely and responsibly. About the Role:

The Scale House Clerk controls access to the Transfer Station and Landfill facilities while processing transactions, maintaining records, and supporting customer service operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate the computerized truck scale using the Waste Works Truck Scale Management System
  • Identify waste types to accept or reject materials in compliance with permit conditions and regulations
  • Collect payments and maintain accurate financial records
  • Direct customers to proper disposal locations throughout the facility
  • Communicate with field personnel using a two-way radio
  • Answer customer questions regarding disposal rules, tipping fees, and hours of operation
  • Respond to and help resolve customer concerns and complaints
  • Perform basic accounting, cash management, and recordkeeping duties
  • Prepare daily bank deposits and change-order requests
  • Produce reports and maintain accurate data records
  • Complete high-volume alpha-numeric data entry with precision

Additional Position Details
  • Full-time, 40-hour work schedule
  • Schedule may change during holidays, emergencies, or staffing shortages
  • Extended hours or six-day work weeks may occasionally be required
  • Position requires good attendance and schedule reliability
  • Physical requirements include sitting for extended periods, standing, reaching, stooping, bending, and lifting up to 10 lbs.
  • Work environment includes moderate noise levels
  • Position requires distance vision
  • This position is Non-Exempt under FLSA

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma/ GED
    • "OR" an equivalent of 3 years of education and 4 years of experience with balancing cash and credit transactions.
  • 1+ years of clerical experience in an office setting
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Experience balancing cash and credit transactions
  • Experience using a 10-key calculator
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Waste disposal experience such as landfill, transfer station, recycle processing facility
  • Certified Weigh Master designation
  • Truck scale software experience
