Howmet Engine Systems has an immediate opening for a Bandsaw & Abrasive Saw Operator (Raw Material Prep), to assist in the manufacturing process at our facility in Rochester, NY. Our current need is 12-hour shifts, 5pm-5am.
Key Responsibilities
- Setup and operate industrial horizontal/vertical bandsaws and abrasive saws to cut various alloys (steel, titanium, nickel) to length and weight.
- Ensure every cut billet is correctly identified with heat numbers, material grades, and job codes to maintain AS9100 compliance.
- Perform frequent in-process inspections using calipers, tape measures, and scales to ensure billets meet "cut-to-weight" or "cut-to-length" tolerances.
- Monitor blade tension, coolant flow, and abrasive wheel wear. Perform routine blade changes and basic preventive maintenance.
- Safely load raw bar stock (often 10-20+ feet long) onto saw tables using overhead cranes, forklifts, or roller conveyors.
- Track material yield and manage "drops" (remnants) to minimize scrap and ensure efficient use of expensive alloys.
- Work closely with the Saw Shop Lead and Forging team to ensure a steady "feed" of material for the daily production schedule.
