Howmet Engine Systems has an immediate opening for a Bandsaw & Abrasive Saw Operator (Raw Material Prep), to assist in the manufacturing process at our facility in Rochester, NY. Our current need is 12-hour shifts, 5pm-5am.
Key Responsibilities
Setup and operate industrial horizontal/vertical bandsaws and abrasive saws to cut various alloys (steel, titanium, nickel) to length and weight.
Ensure every cut billet is correctly identified with heat numbers, material grades, and job codes to maintain AS9100 compliance.
Perform frequent in-process inspections using calipers, tape measures, and scales to ensure billets meet "cut-to-weight" or "cut-to-length" tolerances.
Monitor blade tension, coolant flow, and abrasive wheel wear. Perform routine blade changes and basic preventive maintenance.
Safely load raw bar stock (often 10-20+ feet long) onto saw tables using overhead cranes, forklifts, or roller conveyors.
Track material yield and manage "drops" (remnants) to minimize scrap and ensure efficient use of expensive alloys.
Work closely with the Saw Shop Lead and Forging team to ensure a steady "feed" of material for the daily production schedule.
