Job Title: RPR / Construction Inspector
Job Description

As an RPR/Construction Inspector, you will provide on-site representation during the construction of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects. You will be responsible for observing field activities, monitoring progress and quality, and maintaining accurate documentation throughout the duration of each project.

Responsibilities

  • Remain on the job site daily throughout active construction.
  • Conduct on-site observations to ensure contractor work aligns with plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Maintain detailed daily reports, logs, markups, and other project documentation.
  • Review and track progress schedules, shop drawings, samples, and contractor submittals.
  • Attend preconstruction, progress, and coordination meetings with the contractor and engineer.
  • Support job site safety programs and follow required protocols.
  • Review contractor pay applications and verify quantities.
  • Coordinate with the assigned engineer and communicate field issues, recommending solutions as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
  • Professional experience in the construction and/or inspection of wet utility systems, including water lines, sanitary sewer lines, storm sewer, and water/wastewater treatment plants.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil construction plans and specifications.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, and construction reporting software.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to project sites and stay overnight as needed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with wet utility construction inspection in a civil consulting firm is ideal.
  • Experience from the construction contractor side (wet utilities) or with INDOT construction inspection.
  • Experience as an RPR or Construction Inspector with water/wastewater utilities inspection experience.
  • Experience as a construction foreman, lead, or manager with 5+ years in wet utilities or treatment plant construction.
  • Proficiency in overseeing testing such as pressure testing, hydrostatic testing, air testing, leak testing, chlorination & de-chlorination, vacuum testing, and mandrel testing.
Work Environment

The role involves frequent travel with overnight stays depending on the project location. Mileage reimbursement is provided at 72.5 cents per mile, and lodging is covered by the company. The position requires working standard construction hours from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with potential for overtime during peak periods. Inspectors manage one project at a time, ensuring high ownership and autonomy. The team consists of 25–28 RPRs statewide, with support from a construction manager and two assistant construction managers. The work primarily focuses on water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, pump stations, lift stations, lead service line replacement projects, and underground utilities. A per diem is provided for meals when traveling.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
