POSITION TITLE: Royalty Analyst & Staff Accountant

REPORTS TO: Sean Southerland & Michael Molz

LOCATION: New York City (Mostly Remote Position)

STATUS: Temporary – 6 months



ROLE:


This position is a leave replacement for a licensing royalty analyst and a senior accountant. This person will be responsible for analyzing and inputting all royalty statements into the system, performing duties related to cash application on a monthly basis and various month-end and quarter-end responsibilities for the financial close process.


 

RESPONSIBILTIES:


·      Analyzing reported royalty statements and checking them against contract for accuracy

·      Inputting monthly and quarterly royalty statements into DAX for all licensees to maintain current record of reporting

·      Processing and posting monthly cash receipts

·      Reviewing missing/error statements quarterly in preparation for next quarter’s processing

·      Ownership over select general ledger accounts, which includes preparing and uploading journal entries, running of monthly financial statements for multiple companies, analyzing account activity, preparing periodic (i.e. monthly or quarterly) account reconciliations, explaining account activity and resolving discrepancies. 

·      Assist with banking activities, prepare journal entries and reconciliations for monthly general ledger close. Assist in preparation and distribution of financial statement. 

·      Ensure all deliverables comply with regulatory guidance and professional standards.   

  • Develops and maintains thorough knowledge and understanding of accounting policies, financial systems, transaction processes, internal controls and chart of accounts
  • Properly applies GAAP and internal accounting control policies and procedures to daily work
  • Timely completion of the month end close process by completing assigned work and assisting others as needed to meet deadlines
  • Prepare audit work papers for internal and external auditors as directed by Controller and Assistant Controller
  • Must have excellent attention to detail and ability to learn systems
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Contribute to departmental and organizational ad-hoc projects, special requests, and other duties as assigned



QUALIFICATIONS:

 

·      Ability to read and interpret contracts

·      Strong analytical skills

·      Comfortable working with large sets of data

·      Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Knowledge of Statutory accounting principles.

·      Strong analytical and accounting skills.

·      Intermediate to advanced experience with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and/or similar programs.

·      Intermediate to advanced knowledge of major accounting software packages for both general ledger and statutory accounting. Microsoft Great Plains and Dynamics AX preferred.

·      Must be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment.

·      Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.

·      Ability to work independently and as part of a team and take on new tasks


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

 Bachelors of Science in Accounting or equivalent from an accredited university. Two to three years progressively responsible experience in the accounting.

 

 Both public and private accounting experience a plus

 Great Plains experience a plus

 Dynamics AX experience a plus
