The Robotics Engineering team is an Enterprise Level organization that is responsible for identifying, developing, and implementing Robotics and Automation technology into all areas of the Shipyard.

Robotics Engineering is seeking an Experienced Engineer to join our team.

About this role:

The Robotics Engineering Group provides continued support to ongoing automation and robotic shipyard operations as well as addresses emerging construction and business needs. This organization focuses on developing robotic systems and applications to support production. The group is responsible for implementation, hardware / software selection, system / process expertise, and construction support. Group members serve as subject matter experts on robotics and automation and are a resource for identifying and exploiting robotics opportunities at Electric Boat. Robotic Engineering drives projects and new technology insertion, ensures requirements are met, develops procedures, procures machines, performs / tests capabilities, and implements robotic systems.

Core functionalities will include:

  • Identifying Robotic Opportunities in the Quonset Point, Groton and off-site facilities
  • Perform technical feasibility analysis, develop business cases, work with management teams to secure funding, develop project implementation strategies, project timelinessand create systems to measure business impact of implemented systems
  • Project Management; including developing Specifications, Vendor Scopes of Work, Vendor Selection, Purchase Requisitions and Facilities Integration while maintaining budget / schedules.
  • Leading overall project team and mentoring entry level robotics personnel
  • Working with Vendors virtually, at their facilities and at EB to Develop, Test and Accept Custom Robotic and Automation Systems/Solutions
  • Performing hands on Robotic On-siteDevelopment and Capability Testing
  • Developing Hardware, Creating Software, Programming and Writing Technical Documentation
  • Implementing systems and providing deck-plate support of robotics and automation
  • Interface regularly and independently with internal stakeholders from Operations Management, Engineering, Program Offices, Facilities, Safety, Training, Maintenance and Planning Organizations
  • Interface and act as a lead subject matter expert with the Navy Customer

Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Engineering or equivalent technical degree such as Robotics / Automation, Industrial / Manufacturing, Welding, Facilities, Systems, Mechatronics, Controls, Mechanical, Maritime, Electrical, Software or equivalent technical degrees will be strongly considered.
  • 5+ post graduate engineering experience
  • Knowledge in at least one of the following areas is required: Robotics / Automation, Mechatronics, Programming, Simulation, Systems, Controls, PLC / HMI, Software, Industrial/ Facilities, Manufacturing, Cutting, Welding, Coatings / Preservation
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant job experience
  • Project Management / task lead experience

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in developing business cases, cost / benefit analysis, project budgets and schedules
  • Experience leading team (process, machine, facility integration)
  • Experience in vendor, machine evaluation, development, testing
  • Knowledge / experience in robotics, industrial manufacturing processes
  • Experience with industrial fabrication, cutting, welding, coatings, automation or robotics
  • Programming, Simulation, Modeling Experience
  • Experience with multi-axis industrial robotic arms; ABB, FANUC, Universal Robots
  • Familiarity with 3D Measurement Systems
  • Familiarity with Groton and/or Quonset Point Operations
  • Knowledge of shipbuilding / defense manufacturing
  • Understanding of PLC Ladder Logic / Visual Basic

The candidate will transition from hands on robotic construction support to lab development and from strategic thinking to technical work.
