Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our RN Nurse Navigator, you will serve as the principal liaison and advocate for patients along their entire lung cancer journey, from initial screening through survivorship.

Every day you will coordinate individualized care, providing comprehensive education, support, and guidance to patients and their families. You will expertly navigate the complex healthcare system, proactively identifying and addressing barriers to care, while facilitating seamless communication and collaboration among the multidisciplinary care team.

To be successful in this role, you will leverage your in-depth clinical knowledge of oncology, exceptional communication skills, and unwavering commitment to patient advocacy to empower and support patients, optimize their outcomes, and enhance their overall care experience.

Responsibilities to include:

Patient Care Coordination & Advocacy:

  • Coordinates care for all assigned patients throughout the continuum of care from diagnosis to release from care, ensuring a smooth and comprehensive experience.

Education & Resource Provision:

  • Continually assesses the educational needs of patients, families, healthcare providers, and the wider community.

Collaboration & Holistic Care Planning:

  • Consults and collaborates extensively with other providers to comprehensively meet the medical, social, and financial needs of patients.

Data Tracking, Evaluation & Quality Improvement:

  • Provides accurate and timely data tracking, management, evaluation, and reporting of clinical/treatment protocols/practices through ongoing observation and analysis of current activities.

Operational & Research Support:

  • Provides operational support and contributes to clinical research activities conducted by the department.

Cultural Competence & Population-Specific Care:

  • Demonstrates proper use of communication tools/materials for effective communication and understands how the culture(s) of patient populations can profoundly affect communication, collaboration, and the provision of care, treatment, and services.

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing
  • Two (2) years of professional nursing experience in Oncology
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Washington State Board of Nursing
  • Current Healthcare Provider BLS Certification
  • Certification by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) as one (1) of the following, within one (1) year of hire, depending on the disease site(s) supported by the incumbent:
    • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN)
    • Certified Breast Care Nurse (CBCN)
    • Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (AOCNP)
    • Advanced Oncology Certified Clinical Nurse Specialist (AOCNS)
    • Blood & Marrow Transplant Certified Nurse (BMTCN)
    • Certified Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse (CPHON)
    • Or, a Certified Pediatric Oncology Nurse (CPON)
  • Strong problem-solving skills, particularly with respect to addressing barriers to care and navigating patients through their care progression
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills

Preferred

  • Master's degree in Nursing or related field
  • Previous Oncology RN Navigator experience
