About the unit

We are a 14 bed Medical ICU that cares for patients who are hemodynamically unstable and require continuous medication infusions, closemonitoringand intensive nursing care. We arelargely acardiac unit that manages our own Balloon Pumps,Impella’sand occasionally Pulmonary Artery Catheters. TheRN’sare trained to do CRRT and have extensive experience inproningthose patients with ARDS. Our typical patient ratio is usually 2:1 for all ICU patients and if they are unstable and critical, then typically 1:1. There are times where we hold on to step-down patients and at times, we may group them at 3:1. Our charge nurses and Shift Leads typically respond to all Rapid Response Calls throughout the hospital and are also responsible for all Codes as well.

We havegreat qualityoutcomes and are committed toqualitycare that weprovideour patients.Our Intensivists arevery involvedin the unit and rely on nursing input during our multidisciplinary rounds.We typically have a great retention rate here on the unit and havelarge amountsof experience betweenall ofour nurses. 3ICU is known for their outstanding teamwork, welcoming environment, and multidisciplinary approach to patient care. This Magnet®-designated facility provides comprehensive medical and surgical care for its patients and is one of four recipients of the Truven Health Advantage Award in the category of Health and Clinical Outcomes. It is home to nine university affiliated residency programs. Here, you will find a Level II trauma center that is a nationally recognized heart, vascular and pulmonary specialties along with other specialties like orthopedics, neurosurgery, and women’s health.

Scope of work

The Charge Lead Nurse role is to provide direct oversight and supervision of all on line unit processes. This is inclusive of but not limited to staffing and scheduling changes affecting current shift, patient care issues and concerns. Appropriate allocation of resources responding to all codes, and handling employee issues and concerns. In addition to ensuring consistent flow of patients through the department. Functions within the framework of policies and procedures of the hospital and demonstrates growth/development.

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree or equivalent Graduated from an accredited school of nursing Required
  • Bachelors Degree BSN Preferred
  • Bachelors Degree For new hires or recent promotions with ADN or Diploma, must complete BSN within 5 years of hire. Required
  • 2 years of relevant experience, recent nursing experience. Required
  • MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from one of the following organizations - American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Canadian Heart and Stroke Required upon hire
