The Texas Behavioral Health Center is a newly completed state-funded psychiatric hospital opening in Dallas’ Southwestern Medical District that is owned by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and operated by UT Southwestern Medical Center.

When fully operational, the 505,000-square-foot facility will house 292 beds – 200 for adult patients and 92 for children and adolescents. As DFW’s first state-funded behavioral health hospital, it is designed to deliver state-of-the-art, patient-centered care in a modern and healing environment. The center provides comprehensive behavioral health treatment and features private patient rooms, abundant access to natural light and nature, and thoughtfully designed spaces that promote recovery. The hospital will also provide training to all behavioral health disciplines.

JOB SUMMARY
Operates with limited oversight to efficiently process the patients to appropriate unit based on physician's order whether patient is coming via ED, DA, Transfer, Clinic, Surgery or Procedural Area.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Required

  • Education
    Graduate of an accredited Nursing program, and
  • Experience
    2 years of acute care experience, and
    2 years of bed control/insurance verification exp.
  • Licenses and Certifications
    (NLC) NURSING LICENSURE COMPACT-BNE Current Texas (or BNE Compact State) license

Preferred

  • Education
    Bachelor's Degree BSN


JOB DUTIES

  • Establish and maintain ongoing communication with internal stakeholders and external customers while securing the patient's admission or internal transfer.
  • Apply clinical expertise and the nursing process to triage and prioritize admission acuity from multiple locations: direct admits, external transfers, ED, onsite clinics and private physician offices
  • Ensure smooth functioning of the patient placement process to reduce wait times and avoid unnecessary movement of patients, serves as an expert clinical resource for patient placement
  • Facilitate the direct admit process by interacting with physicians to ensure telephone triage results in appropriate patient placement.
  • Notifies Administrative Coordinator or Manager concerning admissions that do not meet the hospitals criteria.
  • Demonstrates ongoing competency skills including age-specific competencies, above level problem solving skills and decision-making abilities. Triage and assess patients in admitting if need arises when there is an admission delay due to bed availability
  • Continually seeks new ways to improve processes and increase efficiencies and takes the initiative to communicate recommendations to Administrative Coordinator or Manager.
  • Completes all status changes appropriately and within a timely manner. Monitors and reviews for appropriateness of the status change. Alerts case management and admitting if the status is inappropriate for the patient.
  • Collaborates with Nursing and Environmental staff to prioritize room cleaning needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
