With a growing portfolio of residential property parcels, King County’s Department of Assessments is looking for interested applicants to apply for the Residential Appraiser II position to develop models, lead teams, and determine the true and fair value of residential property for tax-assessment purposes. THE OPPORTUNITY:

  • To function as a team lead, coordinating a group of Residential Appraiser I’s and serving as a trainer,consensus builder, workload facilitator, and resource.
  • To coordinate, test, lead, and train the team in utilizing new technology and applications.
  • To utilize statistical modeling tools for analysis and documentation.
  • To collaboratively ensure consistent, fair, and equitable appraisals.
  • To develop, calibrate, test, and lead the implementation of regression models and other approaches to the valuation of a universe of properties.
  • To demonstrateappropriate appraisal methodology and data collection practices, serving as an example and resource for your team

WE ARE LOOKING FOR CANDIDATES WITH:

  • Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well within a collaborative, team environment.
  • Customer focuswith a dedication to integrity, ethics, trust, and values.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the effect of market influences on the valuation of waterfront, complex high value properties, urban and rural neighborhoods, and environmentally impacted properties.
  • Working knowledge of multiple regressionoutput and reliability indicators, together with other appraisal tools as they relate to model building for uniform property assessments.
  • Ability to read and understanddepartmental and county procedures, legal documents, RCW and WAC rules, jurisdictional policies, and detailed property records.
  • Proficiency and ease in usingbusiness productivity tools and cutting-edge technology in your everyday work; (We use iPads, Microsoft Office Suite, and other assessment related tools).
  • Exceptional listening skillsand the ability to keep up with evolving business needs through flexibility and rapid integration of new concepts.
  • Confidence in making decisions with problem solving, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to train and develop appraisal skillsfor your team, peers, and other DOA staff.

Any combination of education and/or experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties of the position above, including:

  • One (1) year of residential mass appraisal experience within the last five (5) years.Experience must be supplemented with:
  • Sixty (60) hours of real estate appraisal education
  • Successful completion of a statistical modeling class, or the ability to successfully complete the class within the first six (6) months of hire.

Acceptable appraisal courses may be sponsored by the Washington State Department of Revenue, IAAO, The Appraisal Institute, National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers, or other major appraisal organizations and accredited colleges.

The following are required as a condition of employment as a Residential Appraiser II:

  • Possession of an Assessor's Accreditation Certificate as required by the state of Washington, or the ability to successfully obtain accreditation within the first twelve (12) months of employment;
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Washington State Driver's License; and
  • Successfully complete background and reference checks and pre-employment physical examination.
