About the Position:Reserve Deputy Sheriffs are volunteer California Sworn Reserve Peace Officers that are trained at or above the state POST Standards which allows them to exercise peace officer powers while on duty. Reserve Deputies volunteer their time each month to assist both sworn and non-sworn personnel in a variety of duties in the department including Patrol, Jail, Dispatch, Civil, Boating and Mounted Patrol enforcement. The Reserve Deputies of the Tehama County Sheriff's Office volunteer hundreds of hours every year to their community and are a valuable asset to the Department. Patrols an assigned area for the prevention of crime and the enforcement of laws and regulations.
Responds to radio calls, telephone instructions and/or citizens' requests to appear at scenes of disorder or crime as assigned.
Conducts preliminary or follow-up investigations of burglaries, thefts, robberies, deaths, assaults, accidents and other incidents.
Graduation from high school supplemented with some education in police science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is desirable.
License & Special Requirements:
Possession of a valid California driver's license
Level I: Completion of a POST Basic Law Enforcement Academy or its equivalent; completion of a POST Certified Field Training Program.
Level II:Completion of a recognized 832 P.C. Arrest and Firearms course; completion of a recognized POST Certified module Level II Reserve course.
Level III:Completion of a recognized 832 P.C. Arrest and Firearms course, completion of a POST Certified module Level III Reserve course.
Must be able to pass an extensive background investigation prior to employment.
The department is recruiting to fill volunteer positions. In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for a Reserve Deputy Sheriff, as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list.
