Reliability Engineer III - Project Based

Autonomous Solutions
Fort Worth, TX

This is a project-based employee role supporting the initial development phase of our autonomous vehicle platforms. Development phases of this nature typically span up to project completion (typically 2–4 years), though scope and duration are driven by business needs.

JOB SUMMARY

The Reliability Engineer III is responsible for ensuring the durability, safety, and long-term performance of ASI's autonomous vehicle systems and components. This role leads reliability investigations and develops strategies to identify and mitigate failure risks across mechanical, electrical, and software systems used in real-world autonomous operations.

As a Level III contributor, this role drives reliability testing initiatives, conducts advanced failure analysis, and collaborates closely with cross-functional engineering teams to implement design improvements that enhance system robustness and lifecycle performance. The position plays a key role in validating system durability through structured testing, reliability modeling, and data-driven engineering decisions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and execute reliability testing plans for autonomous systems and subsystems including mechanical, electrical, and software components
  • Perform reliability analyses such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), root cause analysis (RCA), and fault tree analysis
  • Design and conduct accelerated life testing, environmental testing, and stress testing to simulate real-world operating conditions
  • Analyze reliability test data to identify trends, potential failure risks, and system performance limitations
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to incorporate Design for Reliability (DFR) principles into system development
  • Establish and monitor reliability metrics to evaluate system performance and support continuous improvement
  • Lead failure investigations to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions
  • Support development of predictive maintenance strategies and reliability-centered maintenance approaches
  • Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners to evaluate component reliability and quality
  • Document reliability methodologies, testing procedures, and results to support engineering decision-making
  • Contribute lessons learned and reliability insights to improve future system designs

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, JOB SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Reliability Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 5–8 years of experience in reliability engineering, system validation, failure analysis, or related engineering roles
  • Strong understanding of reliability engineering methodologies including FMEA, fault tree analysis, and root cause analysis
  • Experience with reliability testing techniques such as accelerated life testing, HALT/HASS, or environmental stress testing
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex reliability and performance data
  • Experience using data analysis tools such as MATLAB, Python, R, or similar platforms
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly present technical findings
  • Ability to work effectively within cross-functional engineering teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with robotics, autonomous systems, or complex electromechanical platforms
  • Familiarity with reliability modeling methods such as Weibull analysis or reliability prediction tools
  • Experience implementing Design for Reliability (DFR) and reliability growth strategies
  • Experience with reliability engineering tools such as ReliaSoft or Reliability Workbench
  • Familiarity with quality and reliability standards such as ISO 9001 or IEC 61508
  • Experience working with supplier quality and component reliability evaluation
