Job Description
Working as A Relays System Engineer, you will serve as the technical authority for Solid-State (SS) and Electromechanical (EM) relays within the product line.
This role is focused on product sustainment, technical ownership, and problem resolution, rather than new product design. You will ensure the reliability and proper application of relay systems by combining fundamental understanding of relay operation with hands-on troubleshooting, failure analysis, and team training.
You will act as the primary technical point of contact across manufacturing, testing, quality, supply chain, and customer support, ensuring consistent and technically sound decisions.
The work model for the role is: #LI-onsite, Florence, SC.
Core Responsibilities.
Act as the technical authority for EM and SS relay products, supporting technical decisions and issue resolution throughout the product lifecycle
Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis of relay-related issues across production, testing, and field applications
Maintain, update, and release engineering specifications, technical data, and documentation for relay products
Maintain and release Bills of Materials (BOMs); ensure accuracy of engineering data and databases
Communicate engineering changes using the ECR–ECO–ECN process
Analyze and resolve issues related to:
Relay operation and behavior
Wiring and control circuits
Electromechanical components (coils, contacts, magnetic systems)
Solid-state components and switching behavior
Cross Functional Technical Support
Serve as the primary technical point of contact for: Manufacturing, Testing, Quality, Supply chain, Internal and External customers
Provide technical guidance to testing and manufacturing teams to improve troubleshooting capability and reduce recurring issues
Support manufacturing and testing, activities by providing timely and practical engineering solutions.
Develop and deliver training on relay fundamentals and troubleshooting methodologies
Create standard troubleshooting guides and technical documentation
Support capability building of testing and production teams to improve first-time resolution of issues
Work with Supply Chain to evaluate and qualify alternate materials or components for legacy products (obsolescence, availability, cost)
Collaborate with Testing and Quality to define and maintain test specifications and acceptance criteria.
License to Operate / Core Values
Reports any integrity, compliance, safety, cybersecurity, quality, contract, program, and cost issues to the management and / or project manager(s) for resolution.
Ensures that engineering activities and deliverables comply with safety regulations and cybersecurity regulations and standards and contractual requirements.
Ensures that Bill of Materials (BOM) for the project meets contractual obligations.
Identifies and implements change / variation requests based on the approval from project manager.
Ensures the project meets the technical requirements of the contract and is technically completed as part of contract closure activities.
Key Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronic Engineering or related field.
Proven experience in:
Troubleshooting control circuits and relay systems
Reading and interpreting electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
Strong understanding of:
Electromechanical relay principles (coils, magnetic systems, contacts)
Basic electronics and solid-state switching devices
Strong communication and technical training skills
Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Engineering
Experience with electromechanical and solid-state relays in industrial applications
Knowledge of protection relay applications and basic coordination concepts
Familiarity with relay testing equipment (e.g., Omicron or equivalent)
Experience supporting legacy product sustainment or obsolescence management
