Wrangell Medical Center, a part of Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC), is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for a Long-Term Care (LTC) contract opportunity in Wrangell, Alaska.
This position offers the opportunity to provide high-quality nursing care to long-term care residents while working in a collaborative healthcare environment focused on patient-centered care and clinical excellence.
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse coordinates and delivers comprehensive nursing care for residents with a variety of medical conditions and healthcare needs. The RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating resident care while collaborating with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong clinical judgment, leadership skills, effective communication, and the ability to provide compassionate care in a long-term care setting.
Key Responsibilities
Resident Care & Clinical Assessment
• Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and ongoing resident evaluations
• Develop, implement, and update individualized nursing care plans
• Monitor resident conditions and identify changes in health status
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately
• Evaluate resident responses to treatment and interventions
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
Care Coordination
• Coordinate resident care activities with physicians and interdisciplinary teams
• Participate in care planning and resident care conferences
• Communicate effectively with residents, families, and healthcare providers
• Ensure continuity of care and proper discharge planning when applicable
• Collaborate with ancillary departments to support resident outcomes
Leadership & Supervision
• Provide leadership and clinical guidance to CNAs, LPNs, and support staff
• Delegate responsibilities appropriately and monitor performance
• Function as Charge Nurse when assigned
• Assist with orientation and mentoring of new staff members
• Promote teamwork and positive communication within the department
Patient & Family Education
• Educate residents and families regarding diagnoses, treatments, medications, and care plans
• Provide emotional support and counseling when appropriate
• Promote health maintenance and disease prevention strategies
• Ensure residents and families understand discharge instructions and ongoing care requirements
Documentation & Compliance
• Maintain compliance with nursing standards, facility policies, and regulatory requirements
• Complete all required documentation accurately and timely in Meditech EMR
• Adhere to infection control policies and patient safety standards
• Participate in mandatory education, training, and competency programs
• Ensure resident confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
Required Qualifications
• Active Alaska RN License (Required at Submission)
• Minimum 1 Year of RN Experience
• Current BLS Certification
• Long Term Care (LTC) experience preferred
• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team
Facility Requirements
• Active Alaska RN License Required
• Must Provide Two Fingerprint Cards Upon Acceptance
• Flu Vaccine Required
• Holiday Coverage Required
• Must Live 50+ Miles from Facility to Qualify as a Traveler
• Meditech Experience Preferred
Preferred Qualifications
• Previous Long-Term Care (LTC) experience
• Charge Nurse experience
• Experience supervising nursing support staff
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance and state reporting requirements
• Experience working in rural or community healthcare settings
