Job Summary

Owns and operates the business processes of one or more regions of a Department in the Medical Group in support of Prisma Health’s mission and goals. This role drives performance and solves problems related to Safety, Quality, Service Delivery (Coverage), and Cost Management in conjunction with physician and APC leadership in the region(s). Supports the hiring and retention of clinical staff and the resolution and process issues in their assigned region(s).

Identifies opportunities for process improvement and cost improvement in assigned region(s). Uses data and develops plans and leads specific operations initiatives to completion. Develops internal department operations resources, utilizes administrative and/or analyst support, and accesses Prisma Health corporate services (such as IT, Biomed, Finance, Legal, etc.) as appropriate to ensure performance for areas outlined below. This role is department leadership and Prisma facility leadership facing. Interacts with clinical team members, and leaders in various functions (Finance, IS, SPD, Supply Chain, Legal, HR, etc.) across Prisma Health.

Essential Functions

  • Leads the measurement and reconciliation of service delivery (case coverage, team member hours) in assigned region(s). Utilizing admin and analysts, computes and summarizes coverage data, case volume in ORs and Non-OR (NORA) care settings using Qgenda and other tools. Assists APC leaders and physician leaders in visualizing performance of standard and premium labor. Identifies opportunities for coverage optimizations in conjunction with physician and APC leadership in region(s).

  • Monitors and measures vendor performance and processes invoices. Vendors include independent contractors, locums, equipment and supplies' vendors. Resolves disruptions in vendor performance. Monitors employment and vendor contracts. Ensures PMs performed on department equipment.

  • Develops, monitors, and manages annual operating budgets for their specific region, including FTE requirements, in conjunction with the Executive Medical Director, Director, physician and APC leaders, and assigned Finance members. Responsible for the intradepartmental control of corporate assets and the effective/efficient management/utilization of clinical department resources.

  • Grasps safety and quality risks and events in assigned region(s) affecting the Department and patients. This could include team member injuries, near misses, and other phenomena. Gathers data including utilization of department analysts. Helps prioritize issues with clinical leaders and drives assignment of initiatives and monitors progress of those initiatives. Reports regularly to Department leadership as scheduled.

  • Ensures regular flow of clinical department information to team members. Assists in development of agenda for regularly scheduled communication forums. Creates materials and reports on operations topics and finances/cost management. Follows-up on clinicians' completion of key deliverables including competencies, PEA, leaves and PSC, and others.

  • Conducts the first analysis of service expansion requests from internal Department customers and hospital/ASC leadership in conjunction with physician and APC leadership including possible alternatives. Chairs discussions to gather information and develop viable plans, including cost and trade-off analysis. Analyses regional financial statements. Research variances, discusses with Department leadership. Proposes actions to take and negotiates internally to implement changes. Provides market and site-specific physician and APC leaders with actionable financial information so they can take appropriate steps regarding manpower adjustments and management. Conducts periodic review of 3rd party biller receipt of accounts and charge accuracy. Tracks key performance indicators for safety, quality, delivery, and cost for regional operations.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • Job has direct and/or indirect supervision of employees that may include final budget authority, hire/termination/disciplinary authority, performance appraisal responsibility. Job will be considered a member of the management staff with direct reports.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education - Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare, Business/Finance, IT, Engineering or related field of study. Master's degree (MBA/MHA) preferred

  • Experience - Five (5) years in hospital or physician practice management

In Lieu Of

  • In lieu of education and experience noted above, a Master's degree (MHA or MBA) and three (3) years of hospital or physician practice operations experience at Prisma Health may be considered
