Regional Managing Director of Leadership Development

Role Mission:

At IDEA, we believe excellent school leaders are the key to ensuring scholars receive a world-class education. Driven by this belief, the Managing Director of Leader Development (MDLD) develop leaders their IDEA region to ensure every school is led by a transformational leadership team.

The Managing Director of Leader Development (MDLD) manages a region’s Principals to ensure that every school will be lead by a high performing principal. The MDLD is the direct manager of a portfolio of Principals, and in partnership with the regional and national team, ensures that Principals are growing at the rate needed to ensure transformational learning for students at their school. The Managing Director of Leader Development sets the vision for instructional coaching and leader development alongside the Executive Director to ensure all campus teams are developing the knowledge, skills, and mindsets needed to deliver strong academic results.

Location:

This is a full-time on-site position located in (Region). Preference will be given to candidates who live in this region, or who are willing to relocate.

Travel Expectations: Managing Directors of Leader Development are expected to work on campuses at least 80% of the time. When not working on a campus, they are able to work remotely if given approval by regional leaders.

What You’ll Do – Accountabilities

Essential Duties:

  • Use data-driven practices to prioritize support for a portfolio of Principals.
  • Analyze academic, persistence, retention, and proficiency-based data metrics in collaboration with regional team members to make appropriate decisions about resource allocation and coaching support.
  • Track and monitor progress for leader development and student outcomes, ensuring ongoing follow-up with regional team members.
  • Partner with regional team to build a strong leadership pipeline and develop new school leaders.
  • Hold regular partnership meetings and maintain ongoing communication with necessary regional and national team members.
  • Support the creation and implementation of coaching plans for portfolio leaders as needed.
  • Coach a portfolio of aspiring school leaders (Cadre of Aspiring Principal participants and/or Principals-in-Residence) to ensure regions have a consistent pipeline of internal leaders ready to fill principal vacancies.
  • Collaborate and share resources with regional team members and other National team members, especially Directors of Leader Development in other regions.
  • Effectively manage and coach team of regional content and leadership coaches to outcomes serving adult learning, coaching, and feedback mechanisms resulting in increased student achievement metrics.
  • Lead effective professional development and in-field follow up for school leaders:
  • At the request of regional leaders, partner with HQ teams to oversee the preparation, execution and in-field follow up of nationally-led professional development programs, such as New Leader Institute, Coaching Academy, Cadre of Aspiring Principals, Successor Principals Academy, and Rhodes Fellowship.
  • Lead the design, preparation, execution and follow up for regionally created professional development sessions, based on regional data.
  • Implement IDEA’s Principals-in-Residence principal preparation program, Rhodes Program, and Successor Principal Academy by providing intensive 1:1coaching

  • Proven ability to develop effective partnerships with multiple stakeholders working towards the same outcome
  • Proven ability to drive improvements in student outcomes through instructional and leadership coaching
  • Proven ability to provide clear, actionable feedback verbally and in writing that leads to improvements in leadership practices
  • Proven ability to drive a strategy towards the desired outcomes, from planning through execution & follow up
  • Ability to design and facilitate engaging and impactful professional development sessions for adults
  • Exceptional ability to coach adults and inspire significant change in their actions
  • Skills in critical thinking and problem-solving, along with the ability to coach and develop these in others
  • Skills in organization, prioritization, follow through, and attention to detail, with ability to coach these in others
  • Skills in effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to manage and monitor multipleprojects at once, often under pressure with competing priorities and tight turnarounds, while maintaining composure, ensuring quality, and achieving results
  • Marked experience and commitment to building and maintaining a culture of high integrity, mutual respect, operational excellence, and prioritization of diversity, equity and inclusion

Required Education and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience: 3+ years teacher experience required; 3+ years of school leader experience required

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Education: Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience: 3+ years of principal experience; Previous DLD experiencein a launching region or working with a large Charter Management Organization (CMO)
  • Knowledge: Proficiency in Relay Graduate School of Education frameworks and protocols (Observation Feedback, Weekly Data Meetings, Action Steps, See It Name It Do, etc.) strongly preferred;

Compensation & Benefits:

Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $103,895 and $129,869, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for a performance bonus based on regional and organizational performance and goal attainment.
