RECREATION/COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT:
The City of Fountain Valley Recreation and Community Services Department's mission is to enrich lives by providing quality programs, human services, and recreational opportunities that create positive, memorable experiences for the public.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
As our next Recreation Specialist, you will take a lead role in designing, launching, and overseeing a diverse range of recreation activities. From managing high-energy events to daily programming, you will have the creative freedom to keep our offerings fresh and engaging. This is a part-time employment restricted to 1,000 hours within a 12-month period (July 1 to June 30) and does not qualify to receive City benefits, except those required by law. Typical work hours vary by department based on operational needs and may include early mornings, evenings, holidays, or weekends.
- Assist in the planning, development, and coordination of adult and youth recreation programs, including sports, senior services, contract classes, special events, facility rentals, and other recreational activities.
- Assist in scheduling, training, and overseeing part-time staff and volunteers for recreational events and activities.
- Perform a variety of general administrative duties, including but not limited to: answering telephones, assisting customers, collecting fees, class registration, preparing simple correspondence, data entry, filing, copying, maintaining attendance and other records and reports.
- Promote the safety of all program participants.
- Assist with the set-up and take-down of tables, chairs, and sports equipment for all facility activities including special events.
- Operate a variety of standard office equipment including a personal computer.
OTHER JOB-RELATED DUTIES:
Perform other duties as assigned.EDUCATION:- High school graduation or equivalent is highly desirable.
- College-level coursework in recreation, physical education, or a related field is highly desirable.
EXPERIENCE:
Previous experience coordinating municipal recreation programs is highly desirable.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:- Possession of/or the ability to obtain a valid CPR/AED and first aid certificate within 12 months of appointment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Evening and weekend work will be required to meet program needs.
