Get in the game with Pleasanton Sports! The City of Pleasanton is seeking dependable, energetic, and experienced recreation professionals to serve as Recreation Leader III - Sportsand help keep our sports programs and facilities running safely and smoothly for the community.

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor – Sports Division, you will serve as the on-site lead staff member at assigned gyms and fields—opening and preparing facilities for use, inspecting sites for safety, monitoring programs and participants, answering patron questions, enforcing rules and regulations, and securing the facility at the end of each shift. In this role, you may also scorekeep basketball games and coach or referee youth sports programs. This position combines customer service, sports leadership, facility operations, and independent problem-solving in a fast-paced recreation environment.

  • Knowledgeable in sports programs, recreation operations, safety procedures, facility rules, equipment use, and customer service.
  • Friendly, diplomatic, and professional when interacting with youth, families, patrons, and the public.
  • A strong communicator who can respond to questions, resolve issues calmly, and use mature judgment in dynamic settings.
  • Flexible and physically able to work both indoors and outdoors, lift up to 25 pounds, and assist with facility and equipment set-up.

In This Role, You Will
  • Open, inspect, and prepare gymnasiums and fields for program use and safety.
  • Monitor sports programs and facility use while serving as the on-site lead staff member.
  • Set up, inspect, store, and manage activity equipment and supplies.
  • Answer questions, provide information to patrons, and deliver a high level of customer service.
  • Interpret and enforce program and facility rules and regulations.
  • Complete reports, assist with shift-related documentation, and help support smooth program operations.
  • Clean facilities, including restrooms, during and after shifts and secure sites at closing.
  • Scorekeep basketball games and coach or referee youth sports activities, primarily youth basketball, as assigned.

1. Demonstrates an understanding of program objectives, operations, supplies and needs.
2. Demonstrates experience and/or familiarity with program operations.
3. Demonstrates some experience in emergency procedures and safety protocols.
4. May have taken classes or training courses in program area.

License:
Possess current American Red Cross certification, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and all guidelines outlined in Title 22 (may be obtained after employment).
