The City of Roanoke is seeking Recreation Instructors responsible for leading engaging Fitness/Wellness and/or Arts/Culture programs within Community Recreation. Instructors will be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality classes that promote creativity, movement, and overall well-being across a variety of age groups and skill levels.
This position supports community recreation programming through instruction, participant engagement, and program development, helping create inclusive and welcoming experiences for all.
The position will also require general knowledge of recreation programming, participant engagement strategies, and basic facility or program space management.
Work will be performed under the general supervision of a full-time Recreation Supervisor and/or Coordinator.

Responsible for planning, implementing, leading and facilitating youth development and recreation programs and activities with the Department's After-School PLAY program (for elementary school age children).
Minimum Qualifications- Experience in fitness instruction, wellness programming, or arts/culture education
- Ability to lead and engage groups in a structured class setting
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred (required for certain program types)
Preferred Qualifications- Group fitness certification
- Specialized skills in areas such as yoga, strength training, dance, visual arts, music, or cultural programming
- Experience working in community-based or recreation settings
