POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Head Coach and in accordance with the mission statement of the YMCA of the Grand Rapids Area, the Assistant Swim Coach is responsible for conducting practices for assigned workout groups and attending team competitions. The Assistant Swim Coach will commit professional leadership to the achievement of the YMCA’s vision and core values and conduct personal and professional affairs in a manner that will exemplify the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. This position requires morning, afternoon, and weekend availability.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids.
COMPENSATION
Starting pay at $20.00 (up to 25 hours/week)

Requirements
KNOW HOW
The Assistant Swim Coach must be at least 23 years of age (to rent and drive a vehicle out-of-state while on meets). It is preferred that the Assistant Swim Coach have competitive swim experience at the minimum of a high school level.
Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles. Ability to demonstrate aquatic skills. Ability to react quickly to emergency situations. YMCA experience preferred.

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.

• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or scheduled form.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee will regularly be required to swim and/or swim while supporting up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud, in an echoing environment.
