POSITION SUMMARY

The Radiation Therapist delivers high-quality patient care by accurately administering radiotherapy to patients based on the prescribing Radiation Oncologist’s treatment plan. The Radiation Therapist does this in compliance with all applicable Health First and regulatory requirements and standards.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITES

  1. Administers radiotherapy treatments according to the Radiation Oncologist’s prescription, accurately and on schedule while following departmental best practices.
  2. Completes and maintains chart documentation in a timely manner.
  3. Participates in continuous quality improvement by adhering to policy and suggesting improvements when needed.
  4. Observes the clinical progress of the radiation patient and uses good clinical decision-making skills to recognize and report signs of complications, serving as a patient advocate when appropriate.
  5. Accurately enters charges for the service performed.
  6. Reports machine problems, mistakes, setup difficulties, and concerns to the Physicist and Chief and Lead Radiation Therapist in a timely manner.
  7. Assists in the scheduling of patients and in maintaining an efficient treatment schedule with minimal gaps, minimizing overtime when possible.
  8. Participates in the simulation process when needed.
  9. Constructs immobilization devices and employs custom blocking devices as needed.
  10. Displays professional conduct and empathy to every patient and communicates effectively with patients and their family members.


Work Experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: American Registry for Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) accredited school or program completion certificate.
  • Work Experience: None
  • Licensure: Radiation Therapist licensure in the State of Florida.
  • Certification:
  1. American Registry for Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) – (R) prior to start date and maintained.
  2. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintained.
  • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
  1. Demonstrates the ability to relate well to all customers and staff.
  2. Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills.
  3. Ability to prioritize and organize to maximize quality, value and service.
  4. Ability to work in a stressful environment.
  5. Ability to respond to life threatening situations.
  6. Ability to assess, interpret data and educate patients and family members of various ages and levels of understanding.
  7. Ability to work with and share knowledge with students and Associates.
  8. Ability to be flexible in order to accommodate variation of work schedule and job assignment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Physically agile; may require walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching frequently.
  • May occasionally include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
  • May require moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders, or overhead.
  • May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift.
  • May be exposed to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting, and/or low to loud noise.
  • May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.
  • Workspace may vary from open to confined.
  • May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
