Job Summary:

The Radiation Safety Specialist collaborates with the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) and fellow radiation safety staff to ensure strict compliance with regulatory guidelines, such as those set forth by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS). This role is instrumental in maintaining a safe environment within the healthcare or research facility concerning the use of radioactive materials and ionizing radiation sources. Responsibilities include conducting compliance assessments, managing documentation, facilitating training, overseeing radiation monitoring programs, assisting with equipment management, and supporting incident investigations, all while promoting a culture of safety and adherence to best practices.

EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION:

  • A minimum of 3 years of clinical or technical experience in medical radiation safety, physics, or nuclear medicine technology is required.
  • Experience with radiation dose management, image quality, and radiation safety is preferred.

EDUCATION DESCRIPTION:

Bachelor's degree in Physical Science, Medical Physics, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Engineering, Biological Science, or a related field is required.
Academic curriculum must include specific coursework related to radiation safety, or equivalent knowledge must be demonstrated through experience and continuing education.

SPECIAL SKILLS DESCRIPTION:

Knowledge of regulations regarding radiation safety for medical applications. Excellent project management skills and great attention to detail. Strong analytical skills and critical thinking ability. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong knowledge of Excel and basic knowledge of related applications.
