Location: Grove City, OH (Greater Columbus Area)

Industry: Structural Steel Fabrication & Heavy Machining

Company Overview

We are a premier, AISC-certified structural steel fabrication and machining leader based in Central Ohio. Specializing in high-precision components and complex assemblies for commercial, industrial, and infrastructure sectors, we pride ourselves on a culture of craftsmanship, technical accuracy, and rapid responsiveness.

Position Purpose

As we scale to meet record demand, we are seeking a hands-on Estimating Specialist to take full ownership of the quoting lifecycle. This is a high-impact, "player-coach" style role for a professional who can bridge the gap between technical takeoffs and proactive customer relationship management.

Your goal is simple: increase quoting throughput, sharpen accuracy, and drive higher win rates through technical expertise and savvy communication.

Key Responsibilities
  • Precision Estimating: Interpret structural/architectural blueprints and bid packages to perform detailed takeoffs for steel components and assemblies.

  • Technical Sales & Relationship Management: Act as a primary point of contact for GCs and engineers; clarify project scope, provide value-engineering solutions, and follow up to close deals.

  • Process Optimization: Refine and maintain standardized estimating tools, Excel templates, and ERP integrations (Genius ERP) to improve speed and consistency.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Engineering, Purchasing, and Production to validate manufacturability and shop routing assumptions.

  • Data-Driven Growth: Analyze historical job performance and "bid hit rates" to refine pricing models and improve overall competitiveness.

Candidate Profile & Qualifications

Experience:

  • 5–10 years in structural steel, miscellaneous metals, or heavy industrial fabrication estimating.

  • Proven track record of managing the full bid proposal process from initial drawing to final contract.

  • Deep understanding of fabrication processes: cutting, welding, machining, and finishing.

Technical Skills:

  • Expertise in blueprint reading and digital takeoff software.

  • High proficiency in Excel and experience with ERP systems (Genius ERP, Tekla EPM/FabSuite, or similar).

  • Familiarity with AISC standards or public project bidding (BABA compliance) is a significant plus.

Soft Skills:

  • The "Get It Done" Mindset: A self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, small-to-mid-size operation and enjoys wearing multiple hats.

  • Analytical Communicator: Ability to solve complex pricing puzzles and explain technical details clearly to clients.

  • Growth Potential: Ambitious enough to grow into a Lead Estimator or Department Head role as the team expands.

Performance Objectives (Year 1)
  1. Throughput: Increase quoting volume by 25% through improved workflows.

  2. Efficiency: Significantly reduce turnaround time for small-to-medium quotes.

  3. Tracking: Implement robust follow-up and "hit rate" reporting within the ERP/CRM.

  4. Relationships: Establish a cadence of communication with key accounts that leads to increased repeat business.

Compensation / Pay Rate (Up to): $85,000.00 - $100,000.00
