Title: Quality Engineer, Advanced Hardware Manufacturing

Pay: $87.40/hr (W-2) plus benefits

Duration: One year with likely extension


Job Description: Our client, an autonomous ride-hailing company, is seeking a Quality Engineer, Advanced Hardware Manufacturing to develop and maintain quality systems, processes, and methodologies that ensure products meet engineering standards, specifications, and performance requirements.


This role supports hardware development and manufacturing programs through close collaboration with Program Management, Design Engineering, Test Engineering, Supplier Quality, Manufacturing, and Risk Management. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, technically strong, and able to succeed in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines. This position reports to the Sr. Quality Engineering Manager.


Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary quality point of contact for hardware development, sustaining engineering, and failure analysis programs involving LiDAR, cameras, sensors, and complex electromechanical assemblies.
  • Lead failure analysis, root cause investigations, and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) for non-conforming products and processes.
  • Support Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) activities and guide teams in developing quality documentation, including Quality Plans , Process Flow Diagrams , PFMEAs , Validation Reports , Inspection / Dimensional Reports , Functional Test Reports , Material / Process Certifications , Rework Instructions , Temporary Deviation Orders , Packaging Reports , and Part Submission Warrants (PSW).
  • Develop and implement Incoming (IQC), In-Process (IPQC), and Outgoing (OQC) quality control processes and performance metrics.
  • Build and improve procedures, work instructions, and systems aligned with industry standards such as IATF 16949 and ISO 9001.
  • Maintain quality documentation and records in systems such as Jira, 3DX, RGBSI, and other internal databases.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve manufacturing quality, process capability, and operational efficiency.
  • Travel to the Fremont worksite as needed.


Required Qualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering (MS preferred)
  • 6–8 years of hands-on experience in design quality or manufacturing quality
  • Strong technical and analytical experience in a manufacturing environment such as Automotive, Semiconductor, Aerospace, Class II/III Medical Devices, or complex software-controlled electromechanical equipment
  • Strong knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) and quality control principles
  • Experience with root cause analysis, CAPA, and non-conformance processes
  • Strong planning, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Working knowledge of statistics and Minitab


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with LiDAR, radar, sensors, cameras, or complex electromechanical assemblies
  • Experience in a startup environment
  • Experience building or scaling a Quality Management System from the ground up
