Role: Quality Manager, Beauty & Personal Care


This is a hybrid role in Los Angeles, CA. Must have ability to be onsite 3-4 days a week

Leadership experience required.


In this role you will:

  • Establish and develop quality control processes, protocols, and documentation standards specifically for cosmetic formulations and packaging.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with MoCRA, applicable state and federal regulations (FDA), and international standards (e.g., ISO 22716).
  • Implement and improve quality systems for Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in a beauty environment.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Quality Department, including oversight of stability testing and microbiological results.
  • Ensure process is maintained for control of documents (Master Batch Records, Formulas, and Specifications).
  • Develop and maintain the company change control system for reformulations and packaging updates.
  • Evaluate and approve raw material suppliers and contract manufacturers (CMOs) through the Supplier Approval process.
  • Ensure products meet the company’s aesthetic and safety standards, including organoleptic checks (color, odor, texture).
  • Review QC test results (pH, viscosity, gravity, etc.), documenting and distributing feedback to Product Development and Operations.
  • Perform batch release for bulk formulas and finished goods (skincare, color cosmetics, or hair care).
  • Provide support for resolving consumer complaints related to product performance or adverse reactions.
  • Manage investigations into deviations or out-of-specification (OOS) results, implementing CAPAs to prevent batch failures.
  • Report on key quality metrics, such as rework rates and supplier performance, to management.


EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in Quality within the cosmetic, OTC, or personal care industry.
  • Strong background in data collection and analysis related to formulation stability and ingredient integrity.


EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology, or a related Life Science field.


SKILLS:

  • Proficient in digital quality tracking tools and Microsoft Office (Excel, SharePoint).
  • Familiarity with INCI labeling requirements and cosmetic safety documentation (SDS/COA).
  • Ability to manage multiple product launches simultaneously without compromising quality.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration between R&D, Marketing, and Supply Chain.
  • Ability to travel as required for factory audits and on-site production starts.
