Job Title: Quality Assurance Engineer
Job Description
This role provides Quality Assurance Engineering support for multiple deployments of hardware and software-driven systems across various locations in the country. You will travel to deployment sites to perform QA checkouts, oversee hardware and software installation, and verify the testing of all equipment used in high reliability, mission-critical aviation systems. The position focuses on ensuring that all deployments meet contractual, regulatory, and internal quality requirements while maintaining thorough documentation of all QA and test activities.
Responsibilities
- Support deployment activities for mission-critical aviation systems by performing comprehensive QA checkouts of hardware and software installations at various locations.
- Oversee hardware receiving, inspection, and quality assurance processes to ensure all components meet high reliability standards before installation.
- Conduct software integration, installation, and implementation activities in accordance with established processes and procedures.
- Understand and interpret contract requirements and quality processes, and ensure that corrective actions are implemented promptly when issues arise.
- Document all test activities, QA checks, and installation details for high reliability hardware in established databases and using standard documentation templates.
- Perform software QA oversight, including verification and validation activities, to ensure software components function correctly within mixed hardware/software systems.
- Collaborate with deployment and engineering teams to resolve technical and quality-related issues identified during installation and testing.
- Support quality control activities related to FAA or similar federal government programs, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of test results and QA findings for mission-critical systems, ensuring traceability and adherence to high reliability requirements.
- Travel frequently to various sites to support ongoing deployments, installations, and QA activities as needed.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience in hardware quality assurance for mission-critical hardware systems.
- Experience supporting FAA or similar government agency programs, particularly involving high reliability hardware/software mixed systems.
- Hands-on experience with software installation, implementation, and software QA oversight.
- Strong understanding of quality assurance and quality control practices for hardware and software systems.
- Ability to interpret and follow contract requirements, quality processes, and regulatory guidelines, and to drive corrective actions when needed.
- Demonstrated experience documenting test results and QA activities for high reliability mission-critical systems in formal databases and documentation tools.
- Willingness and ability to support a heavy travel schedule to various deployment locations.
- At least 5–10 years of relevant experience in quality assurance, hardware installation, or related engineering roles.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university is highly desired; candidates with an associate degree and strong relevant experience will be considered.
- Experience with hardware installation and verification in complex systems environments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Familiarity with government systems and QA activities, particularly those aligned with federal or aviation standards.
- Experience working with Red Hat Linux-based hardware platforms or IBM systems.
- Exposure to ADA and C++ for installing, releasing, and testing software components.
- Experience in software QA tasks for testing and verification of high reliability systems.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain thorough, accurate documentation.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary deployment and engineering teams.
- Ability to adapt to changing deployment schedules and priorities while maintaining high quality standards.
Work Environment
This position is primarily office-based, with significant travel to various deployment sites across the country as needed. You will work with high reliability mission-critical aviation systems that integrate both hardware and software components, including platforms such as Red Hat Linux-based hardware or IBM systems. The role involves working within structured processes, established databases, and formal documentation systems to record all QA and testing activities. You can expect a long-term opportunity through 2028, supporting ongoing deployments and integration efforts in a professional, process-driven environment.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Gaithersburg, MD.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $55.00 - $70.00/hr.
