Job Title: QC Lab Analyst

Job Description

The QC Lab Analyst supports a busy quality control laboratory by preparing samples, maintaining clean and organized lab spaces, assisting analysts, and performing data entry to ensure accurate and timely testing of pharmaceutical products. This role offers extensive hands-on training in wet chemistry and analytical instrumentation, with a clear path to progress into a QC Chemist position over time.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare laboratory samples for testing in accordance with established quality control procedures.
  • Perform routine lab preparation activities, including labeling, organizing, and staging samples for analysis.
  • Clean and maintain glassware and general lab equipment to support a safe and efficient laboratory environment.
  • Assist QC Analysts with day-to-day testing activities and provide support on assigned projects and studies.
  • Enter test data accurately and promptly into laboratory systems and spreadsheets.
  • Receive training on laboratory instrumentation and sequencing techniques and apply that training under supervision.
  • Train over time on wet chemistry and analytical chemistry testing methods alongside experienced analysts.
  • Learn and assist with operation of analytical instruments such as HPLC, GC, UV-VIS, and FTIR under guidance.
  • Perform basic pH measurements and other routine wet chemistry tests as training progresses.
  • Support quality control activities related to both wet chemistry and analytical testing for pharmaceutical products.
  • Follow laboratory procedures, documentation practices, and quality standards to support reliable test results.
  • Collaborate with team members in the quality and analytical groups, which operate under a unified structure.
  • Contribute to testing activities for commercial products, R&D projects, and products in regulatory review as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline, preferably in Chemistry, Biology, or a closely related field.
  • Basic data entry skills with strong attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word, for recording and organizing data.
  • Familiarity with laboratory environments and procedures, including safe handling of samples and reagents.
  • Exposure to chemistry-focused testing or laboratory coursework gained through academic studies.
  • Hands-on lab experience from school, including basic wet chemistry techniques and use of common lab equipment.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and standard operating instructions in a regulated lab setting.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple samples, tasks, and documentation requirements.
  • Effective communication skills to work closely with QC Analysts and other laboratory team members.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with wet chemistry techniques from academic labs or industries such as food, cosmetics, or industrial products is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) is a plus.
  • Exposure to or interest in analytical chemistry methods, including chromatography and spectroscopy, is beneficial.
  • Interest in learning to operate analytical instruments such as HPLC, GC, UV-VIS, and FTIR.
  • Understanding of basic concepts in quality control, biology, and chemistry, including pipetting and chromatography principles.
  • Motivation to grow into a QC Chemist role through on-the-job training and expanded responsibilities.
  • Ability to work both independently on assigned tasks and collaboratively within a close-knit lab team.
  • Interest in pharmaceutical products, including treatments for central nervous system conditions and severe allergic reactions.

Work Environment

This position is based in a quality control laboratory within a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. The role operates on a first-shift schedule with flexible hours, providing a stable daytime work environment. The lab offers a family-like, collaborative atmosphere where the quality and analytical teams work closely together under one umbrella. You will work with a range of pharmaceutical products, including epilepsy treatments and products in development for anaphylaxis, as well as new R&D formulations and expanding supplement lines such as melatonin and caffeine energy products. The laboratory uses a variety of wet chemistry and analytical technologies, including pH measurement, chromatography, and instruments such as HPLC, GC, UV-VIS, and FTIR. The site is growing, with recent facility expansions and a renewed strategic focus at the leadership level, creating strong opportunities for professional development and advancement. As one of the few pharmaceutical sites in the region, the lab provides exposure to commercial products marketed globally and to products progressing through FDA approval stages. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portage, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $27.00/hr.
