Leadership / Supervisory Expectations

  1. Experience leading QA/QC teams (inspectors, NDE, document control)
  2. Ability to assign work, prioritize inspections, and manage workload
  3. Mentoring and developing junior inspectors
  4. Enforcing quality culture across the shop floor


Core Experience (must-have)

  1. 5+ years QA/QC experience in fabrication environments (pressure vessels, tanks, piping, or structural steel)
  2. Hands-on inspection experience in shop fabrication (not just documentation)
  3. Direct experience with pressure vessels and/or storage tanks (shop or field)

Codes & Standards (critical)

  1. Strong working knowledge of:
  2. ASME Section VIII (Div 1 preferred)
  3. API 650 / API 620 (tanks)
  4. API 510 (inspection) is a plus
  5. Ability to read and interpret code requirements, not just follow checklists
  6. Experience with WPS/PQR review and weld procedure compliance


Technical Skills

  1. Reading and interpreting fabrication drawings, isometrics, and weld maps
  2. Welding inspection knowledge (fit-up, visual inspection, weld profiles, defects)
  3. Familiar with NDE methods:
  4. RT, UT, MT, PT (hands-on or coordination level)
  5. Hydrotest, leak testing, and final QA documentation packages


Certifications (preferred but not mandatory)

  1. AWS CWI (strongly preferred)
  2. API certifications (510, 570, 653) a plus
  3. NDE Level II or III is a plus


Day-to-Day Responsibilities Background

  1. In-process inspections during fabrication
  2. Final inspection and turnover documentation
  3. Managing NCRs, punch lists, and corrective actions
  4. Working directly with welders, shop supervisors, and project managers
  5. Customer/third-party inspector interaction


What Good Looks Like (soft filters)

  1. Has worked in a fast-paced fabrication shop (not just EPC office role)
  2. Comfortable on the floor, not just behind a desk
  3. Can push back on quality issues without slowing production unnecessarily
  4. Detail-oriented but practical (understands schedule pressure)
