Overview

The Purchasing Agent supports the Purchasing team in meeting and exceeding departmental and company objectives. This role ensures production materials and components are available on time and in the correct quantities to support the production schedule.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following; other duties may be assigned.

  • Review and maintain planning files with proper lead times, safety stock, order due dates and other required information.
  • Create, issue, and follow up on purchase orders.
  • Respond to inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources for the purpose of providing information and direction.
  • Conduct root cause analysis on inventory outages and/or overages and communicate results and recommendations to appropriate parties.
  • Work cross functionally with multiple departments, i.e. Production, Engineering, Quality, Logistics and Sales.
  • Represent the Purchasing Department in meetings, value streams or other assigned projects.
  • Develop and maintain strategic supplier relationships with key suppliers.
  • Manage specific commodities assigned by the Purchasing Manager.
  • Review and process PCNs and Proformas
  • Domestic and international travel required as needed.
  • Market analysis and monitoring trends to ensure strategic sourcing.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Two or more years of related experience, with bachelor’s degree ORfive or more years of related experience required.

  • Experience in inventory control, master scheduling, or production planning is a plus.

  • Experience with an integrated manufacturing planning system is very beneficial.

  • Must be proficient with the use of the applications in Microsoft Office.

  • Candidate must be self-motivated and able to operate independently.

  • Must have the ability to prioritize and multi-task.

  • Must have good interpersonal skills and strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Candidate must be comfortable in both a factory and office environment as position requires equal time in both.

  • Relevant purchasing/planning experience.

  • Understanding of MRP principles.

  • Ability to strategically plan and drive process improvements.

The hours for this position are 7:00am - 3:30pm, Monday through Friday.
