Purchasing Agent – Forte Construction
About the Role
Forte Construction is seeking a hands-on, construction-savvy Purchasing Agent to support material procurement for active job sites across Long Island and the NYC region. This role plays a critical part in keeping projects on schedule by ensuring timely delivery of materials, competitive pricing, and strong vendor performance.
Salary Range
- Base Salary: $70,000 – $90,000 (Long Island, NY market‑aligned)
Key Responsibilities
- Source, evaluate, and onboard vendors that meet construction‑grade quality, cost, and schedule requirements
- Secure competitive quotes for materials, equipment, and specialty items for public works and commercial construction
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules to support tight project timelines
- Issue and manage purchase orders; ensure accuracy in quantities, specs, and project coding
- Monitor material inventory and coordinate directly with Warehouse staff and Superintendents
- Track deliveries, resolve shortages, backorders, and supplier issues
- Collaborate with Project Managers to forecast material needs based on schedules, submittals, and change orders
- Maintain organized records of pricing, vendor contracts, lead times, and procurement logs
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or sales — construction or building materials preferred
- Familiarity with submittals, material specifications, and construction project workflows
- Strong negotiation and communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; ERP experience preferred
- Detail‑driven, organized, and able to manage high‑volume purchasing
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Kojo or similar construction procurement platforms
- Knowledge of public works requirements (MTA, LIRR, SCA, DOT)
Work Environment
On‑site role with daily coordination across Warehouse, Project Management, Field Operations, and vendor partners.
