Make an Impact Where It Matters Most Lead the maintenance operations of a cutting-edge waste-to-energy (WTE) facility and ensure critical systems run safely, efficiently, and reliably. This role blends leadership, technical expertise, and strategic planning to keep essential infrastructure performing at its best.
Typical Task:
Oversee daily maintenance operations, including preventive and corrective work.
Supervise, train, and support a team of maintenance professionals
Coordinate schedules, outages, and repairs with plant operations
Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues
Track projects, analyze data, and recommend improvements
Manage vendor relationships, contractors, and equipment purchases
Maintain detailed documentation for repairs, training, and compliance
Minimum Requirements
Requires an Associate’s Degree, or specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college in maintenance/repair or a closely related field.
Requires a minimum of three (3) years of full-time equivalent maintenance experience in a supervisory role or a closely related experience.
American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) certification as a Qualified Resource Recovery Operator (QRO) and a Virginia Class IV Waste Operators license are preferred.
Must successfully pass a background check before any offer of employment or promotion.
Must meet the City’s required medical standards as determined by a licensed physician.
This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
Additional Requirements
The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergencies or at the direction of the City Manager, which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
