Description

Performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance, repair, and construction of Town infrastructure, including streets, parks, fleet, and public facilities. Operates light and heavy equipment and performs work with a high degree of independence. This position supports multiple Public Works divisions and is responsible for diagnosing issues, completing repairs, and assisting with project coordination while ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality operations.

Roads Maintenance

· Performs maintenance and repair of Town streets, including pothole patching, crack sealing, grading, and surface repairs.

· Installs, repairs, and replaces traffic control signs, striping, and roadway markings.

· Inspects, maintains, and repairs storm drainage systems, including culverts, ditches, and inlets.

· Operates heavy and light equipment such as loaders, graders, dump trucks, and snowplows.

· Independently performs snow and ice removal operations and runs assigned snow routes.

· Sets up and maintains traffic control and ensures work zone safety compliance.

· Reads and interprets plans, maps, and construction drawings for roadway projects.


Fleet Maintenance

· Performs preventive maintenance and inspections on Town vehicles and equipment.

· Diagnoses mechanical issues and performs minor to moderate repairs independently.

· Assists with scheduling and tracking maintenance and service records.

· Ensures fleet equipment is properly maintained, clean, and operational.

· Identifies equipment needs and recommends repairs or replacements.

· Maintains shop organization, safety, and inventory of tools and supplies.


Parks Maintenance

· Performs and oversees routine and specialized maintenance of parks, trails, athletic fields, and open spaces.

· Operates and maintains irrigation systems, including troubleshooting, repair, seasonal startup, and winterization.

· Performs landscaping tasks including planting, pruning, turf care, weed control, and soil maintenance.

· Inspects and maintains playgrounds, park structures, and amenities for safety and functionality.

· Leads or assists with special projects and seasonal work such as improvements, renovations, and event setup.

· Monitors assigned park areas and performs work independently with minimal supervision.


Building Maintenance

· Performs maintenance and repair of Town buildings and facilities, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC-related tasks within skill level.

· Diagnoses facility issues and completes repairs with minimal supervision.

· Performs preventative maintenance such as inspections, filter changes, and system checks.

· Assists with facility improvements, renovations, and construction-related tasks.

· Supports facility setup and teardown for Town events and operations.

· Monitors facilities for safety, code compliance, and maintenance needs.


General Public Works Support

· Supports all Public Works divisions as needed.

· Responds to after-hours emergency calls and serves on-call as required.

· Maintains detailed and accurate records using Town systems (e.g., GIS, work order systems).

· Communicates effectively with superiors, coworkers, and the public.

· Assists in identifying maintenance needs, planning projects, and recommending improvements.

· Maintains tools, equipment, and work areas in safe and clean condition.

· Performs work independently and may provide guidance or direction to less experienced staff.

· Supports Town events and special projects.

· Other duties as assigned.

Ability to:

· Ability to operate Heavy Equipment

· Perform routine maintenance repairs with minimal or no supervision

· Ability to understand and interpret plans, maps, diagrams, and construction drawings

· Perform snow removal duty with minimal or no supervision and can run a snow route independently.

· Ability to safely use, mix, and apply job-specific chemicals and products as needed

· Understand documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, plans, and specifications.

· Complete and follow through on paperwork in a timely manner. Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid and logical conclusions.

Education or Formal Training:

· High school diploma or GED required.

· Minimum of two (2) years of experience in public works, construction, parks maintenance, fleet maintenance, facilities maintenance, or a related field preferred.

· An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

· Technical or vocational training in areas such as heavy equipment operation, mechanical systems, irrigation, or building maintenance is desirable.


Certificates and Licenses:

· Valid Colorado’s Driver’s License.

· Flagger certification or the ability to obtain within three months of employment.

· Chemical licensures or the ability to obtain within 1 to 2 years.

Work Environment:

General environment for a public works department. Work may include being outside in inclement weather and being around hazardous chemicals. The job regularly requires operating heavy machinery and performing manual labor. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.


Salary Range: $56,600 - $67,000 plus benefits package.
