This recruitment is being conducted to fill one (1) full-time vacancy for the position of Public Works Accounting Assistant for the Public Works Department at Napa County. The eligibility list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future full-time, part-time, limited-term and extra help vacancies as they occur over the next 12 months.About the Position:The Public Works Department is dedicated to sustaining health, safety, quality of life and protection of natural resources by providing and maintaining public facilities and services in partnership with the community and other public agencies for current and future residents, workers, animals, and visitors of Napa County. The Public Works Accounting Assistant will work with a close-knit team to support the Napa County Public Works Department. While responsibilities may vary, depending upon the departmental assignments, all positions are characterized by the performance of complex accounting and financial support work, requiring the regular use of independent judgment and initiative. The position is responsible for performing complex and highly responsible accounting assignments. A typical day of responsibilities may look like:
- Providing accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, statistical, financial analysis and administrative support for the Public Works Department
- Interpreting and process, record, review and reconcile a variety of financial records and transactions with minimum supervision.
- Maintaining databases for service agreements, maintenance equipment, and utilities for Countywide buildings.
- Keeping complete and accurate records of all Property Management accounts payables, accounts receivables, reimbursable charges, project costing and cost accounting records.
- Independently solving complicated transactions and numerous reconciliations.
The ideal candidate will be familiar with Excel, service agreements, be incredibly organized and capable of multi-tasking, and have the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment.Position Requirements:
To qualify for this classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities. A desirable combination is:- Experience:Two years of progressive, directly-related experience in financial record keeping work preferably including experience in a Public Works Department accounting position and/or with a government agency.
- Education:Equivalent to completion of two years of college with course work in accounting, financial record keeping, or a closely related field. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the college education on a year-for-year basis.)
- License or Certificate:*A position assigned to this class may require possession of a valid California Driver's License.
