GENERAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT ~ RECREATION DIVISIONSUMMER SEASONAL
PUBLIC SERVICE ATTENDANTUnder general supervision, as a lead person, to perform work involving contacts with the public and minor clerical and/or manual tasks in connection with the operation of a municipal commercial public service enterprise or similar.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (may perform other duties as assigned)
- Proficiently operate the department’s registration system.
- Use a point-of-sale system to process payments and monitor sales.
- Act as a point-of-sales person to process financial transactions at a recreation facility.
- Prepares reports and accounts for cash taken in.
- Directs patrons to appropriate programs and program areas.
- Directs visitors to the various exhibits, galleries, or staff offices.
- Set up and breakdown of activities and events which includes moving tables, chairs and other equipment.
- Assist in maintaining order.
- Assist with monitoring activities as needed throughout the facility.
- Maintains premises in a clean and orderly condition which includes performing minor cleaning of areas after events or programs as needed.
- Assist in crowd control at various events.
Qualifications (required):
- Completion of a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- One (1) year of experience in public service or other activities involving contacts with the public.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Special Requirements:
- If certifies to a position involving the handling of food, must be eligible and able to obtain a valid food handler’s card.
- Individuals entering this class are required to complete a training course in basic first aid and CPR within 90 days of hire.
Equivalency
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.

- Knowledge of commercial public service enterprises and activities.
- Skill in interacting tactfully and effectively with staff and the general public.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to operate a personal computer.
Physical Demands
- Work assignments involve bending, stooping, walking and standing for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to lift-up to 30 lbs.
- May be required to demonstrate ability to perform tasks related to the job.
Work Environment
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors with exposure to all seasonal conditions.
- Work may expand to other locations such as Hart Plaza, Brennan Pool, or local parks.
