About This Role:

As a Public Safety Technician, you will work under the direction of the watch commander at the Garfield Police Station. Some of the job responsibilities include processing prisoners, operating a Breathalyzer and LiveScan fingerprinting systems, completing required documentation and handling law enforcement sensitive data, managing the front desk, providing customer service to walk-ins and phone inquiries, performing data entry, records updates, and assisting with station inventory and supplies

The successful candidate will have strong communication skills, detail oriented, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, Proficiency with computers and data entry systems as well as the ability to multi-task, successfully prioritize their workload, and work without direct supervision. Success in this role requires flexibility, independence, and the ability to prioritize effectively while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.


Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in customer service (in-person and over the phone)
  • Previous work with law enforcement systems or sensitive data
  • Experience using LiveScan and VCIN
  • Certification to administer breath alcohol tests through Virginia DFS
  • Experience testifying in court


Special Requirements:

All candidates will be required to undergo a polygraph examination and a comprehensive background investigation prior to hire.


Work Schedule:

This is an eveningshift position, with regular hours between 4:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m., including weekends and occasional holidays. The schedule operates on a rotating basis with every other weekend off. Flexibility to cover alternate shifts and respond to emergencies is essential.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This role requires the ability to:

  • Sit for extended periods, occasionally lift up to 10 pounds
  • Perform standard administrative motions (reaching, grasping, talking, hearing, typing, etc.)
  • Remain alert and focused during overnight shifts

Starting Salary Range: $27.35 - $32.17
