A prominent public interest law firm seeks a dedicated Staff Attorney to join their dynamic team in Columbia, South Carolina.

Why This Role is the Ultimate Career Accelerator

For newer attorneys or those looking to pivot, this firm provides an ideal environment to fast-track your legal development. You will step out of the background and into the courtroom, building foundational skills that set you apart for the rest of your career.

  • Broad Legal Exposure: You will manage a varied caseload that keeps your days engaging. Cases span critical areas including employment law, social security, disability, workers’ compensation, evictions, divorce, custody, and domestic violence.
  • Hands-On Courtroom Experience: You will regularly handle hearings and trials. Rather than just drafting research memos in a back room, you will actively stand up for your clients in court.
  • A Built-In Safety Net: While you enjoy high autonomy over your files, you will never work in a silo. You will collaborate with a supportive team of experienced legal professionals who value mentorship and shared strategic knowledge.
  • Lifestyle Balance: You can finally escape the pressure of the billable hour matrix. This organization focuses entirely on client outcomes and community advocacy, allowing you to maintain true work-life harmony.

  • Litigation Leadership: Preparation for and leadership of hearings, trials, and administrative proceedings with confidence.
  • Persuasive Writing: Conduct of focused legal research to draft clear, compelling briefs, motions, and pleadings.
  • Community Connection: Protection of client rights and navigation of systemic barriers to help build a more equitable society.

Qualifications

The firm welcomes motivated, empathetic legal professionals who bring a strong work ethic and a desire to learn. The requirements include:

  • Education: A Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensure: Active membership in the South Carolina Bar in good standing.
