About This Role:

This position will work closely with the center's Nutrition staff and the Nutrition Services Manager to prepare nutritious and appealing meals that are in keeping with service standards and regulations set forth by the Virginia Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS). It will also assist the members of the Senior Centers in becoming more knowledgeable about the information needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle, primarily focused on diet and nutrition. This role also works with volunteers and community partners to bring about effective outcomes.

Typical duties may include (but are not limited to):

  • Review and provide technical guidance in the development of cycle menus that ensure variety and nutritional adequacy while reducing waste.
  • Manage community programs, sponsored by or in cooperation with the Prince William Area Agency on Aging that are designed to nutritionally benefit older adults
  • Perform nutrition education to older adults through publications, group presentations, health fairs, etc.
  • Performs annual reassessment on MOW clients.
  • Performs one-on-one nutrition counseling for senior center member and meals on wheels clients, upon request
  • Document pertinent client information in the Agency’s electronic data collection system
  • Collects program satisfaction data to determine service effectiveness


Minimum Requirements:

High School Diploma or G.E.D and 5 years of related experience in providing needed services to older adults in the community.


Preferences:

A successful candidate will have experience planning and implementing cycle menus for older adults. They will work effectively with internal staff, volunteers, and older adults in the senior centers as well as the community, their families, and community partners. A successful candidate will demonstrate very strong communication skills, problem-solving & adaptability, adhere to policies and procedures, and maintain compliance with program guidelines.


Preferred skills and experience include:

  • Bachelor's degree inPublic Health Nutrition, Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, or Human Nutrition
  • Experience working with Older Adults
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both oral and written, to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to work with staff and volunteers
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations
  • Experience in providing meals in a congregate setting
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to demonstrate exceptional customer service
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Experience in accessing and entering applicant information into databases
  • Experience planning cycle menus
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Familiarity with DARS
  • Proficiency with PeerPlace or a similar database system


Special Requirements:

  • Must pass criminal background check
  • Must pass a DMV Record check
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Must take a health physical and TB test and be cleared for employment
  • Mandated reporter of Elder Abuse
  • Certifications/Trainings required (or must be attained within twelve months) include:
    • ServSafe certification
    • APS Mandated reporter certification
    • CPR & 1st Aid certification


Work Schedule:

Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.


Hiring Salary Range:

$70,921.50 - $89,000 Annually
