OC COMMUNITY RESOURCES (OCCR)
OC Community Resources (OCCR) consists of six Programs: Administrative Services, OC Animal Care, OC Community Services, OC Housing & Community Development, OC Parks, and OC Public Libraries. Together, these programs advance OC Community Resources commitment to connecting people with resources.

THE OPPORTUNITY
The Strategic Operations and Professional Standards teamprovides critical support and guidance to all OCCR programs. The team ensures items brought to the Board of Supervisors adhere to County rules and policies, responds to Public Records Act requests, monitors and analyzes pending state and federal legislation, and manages government affairs activities. SOPS also maintains and develops Departmental policies and procedures, supports audit activities, and leads special projects.

Interns will receive:

  • Structured orientation to departmental operations, administrative procedures, and workplace expectations.
  • Training in standard office practices.
  • Instruction and support in the creation, formatting, and maintenance of forms and templates.
  • Guidance on the use of department-specific systems, software, and office tools.
  • Opportunities to observe staff and become familiar with routine administrative functions.
  • Regular supervision and check-ins to provide direction, clarify expectations, and offer feedback.
  • Assignment of duties in a progressive manner, with support provided as proficiency increases.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, assisting SOPS with one or more of the following assignments or projects:

  • Provide administrative support by preparing or creating files, forms, spreadsheets, reports, and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Conducting research, analysis, and draft reports/findings on special projects.
  • Assist staff with day-to-day operations.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicantsmust be current college students enrolled in an accredited college/university or be a recent graduate (6 months) with an interest in pursuing a career in the public sector and/or in gaining experience within an office/administrative environment.

SKILLSAND QUALIFICATIONS
We are seeking applicants with the following qualifications:
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized and dependable.
  • Eager to gain professional experience.
  • Able to complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Reliable, outgoing and able to work independently.
  • Experienced in Internet use and Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.

TIME COMMITMENT
We can meet college internship timeline requirements, or a minimum of 15 – 20 hours per week for a minimum of 3 months. Hours may be scheduled Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Summer placement of a shorter duration may be available. Applicants able to schedule the maximum hours/duration listed for this internship typically gain a more in-depth experience.
