DEFINITION:

To teach courses in the Criminal Justice Technology Pathway program to students at Mosley Career Readiness Academy. To develop and update curriculum and prepare educational material for courses, provide classroom instruction to students through lecture, demonstration, and laboratory exercises, handouts, responding to questions and testing. Courses to be delivered in-person.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:


Receives general and technical supervision from the Criminal Justice Technology Program Director.

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTION STATEMENT:

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:


  • Provide classroom and laboratory instruction to students.
  • Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities; develop and prepare supplement materials to enhance textbook lessons.
  • Develop and prepare tests to evaluate student performance. Grade tests and record individual scores.
  • Provide classroom demonstrations using various equipment, technology, and machinery.
  • Develop assignments to provide hands on experience as appropriate.
  • Participate in curriculum development and evaluation.
  • Attend faculty meetings as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance.
  • Maintain and submit all required paperwork in a neat, accurate and timely fashion, including but not limited to: class rosters, registration forms, pay sheets, attendance forms and grade rosters.
  • Stay abreast of new developments and changes in various academic fields.
  • Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area and in accordance with CFCC policies and guidelines.

Other Important Functions:

  • Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons and recommend improvements as needed
  • Oversee and participate in field studies and assignments; travel with students to provide assistance and instruction as appropriate
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:


Knowledge of:

  • Classroom and instructional techniques and procedures.
  • Relevant coursework in Criminal Justice.
  • Current trends, research and development in the area of criminal justice education.
  • Principles, techniques, and procedures of academic program development in the area of instruction.


Ability To:


  • Interpret and apply college goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:


Minimum Education/Training:

An Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from an accredited college or specialized training at the level required to meet SACS criteria for academic and professional preparation of the assigned area of instruction.


Minimum Experience:

Two (2) years’ experience in the criminal justice or related field.


Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills:

Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice

Five (5) years’ experience in the criminal justice or related field.

Special Instructions to Applicants:

Courses will be taught at the Mosley Career Readiness Academy located at 3702 Princess Place Drive in Wilmington, (New Hanover County) NC 28405. The schedule for this course will be discussed during the interview process. However, instructors are required to be in the classroom Monday-Thursday for 6 hours each week, not counting lesson preparation time. This is standard time for part-time faculty obligations.

Candidates are required to submit OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS for all degrees obtained prior to their first day of work or hire date. If highest level of education is High School diploma or equivalent, proof of completion is required.

Candidates who have obtained their education outside of the US and its territories must have their academic degree(s) validated, at their own expense, by an outside credential evaluation service as equivalent to the Baccalaureate or Master's degree conferred by a regionally accredited college or university in the United States.
