Adjunct Chemistry Instructor

Alamance Community College (ACC) is seeking an Adjunct, Natural Sciences Faculty for instruction of Chemistry courses. This employee will assist in the day-to-day classroom management of assigned course sections. The teaching load may vary semester to semester, depending on enrollment and course assignments.



  • Teach curriculum courses in an online, traditional seated, and/or hybrid format.
  • Development of syllabi and tests.
  • Maintaining accurate records of student work and attendance; grading and returning student work in a timely manner.
  • Hold weekly office hours
  • Excellent communication skills with the students and the Department Head
This position interfaces with students, college faculty & staff, and the department head. Faculty will ensure student learning outcomes are met and student retention is addressed. Administrative requirements are also a critical function of this position as it relates to grading, documenting student attendance and course progress.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of an 18 hours of graduate coursework from a regionally accredited institution in Chemistry or another related field.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • An understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff is required.
  • Demonstrated experience with current teaching methodologies and classroom management.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in a Chemistry or closely related science discipline, with 18 hours graduate credits in Chemistry.
  • Lab experience in a Community College setting preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of MS Office; familiarity with Google Drive and other cloud-based sharing platforms a plus.
