The Emma L. Bowen Community Service Center is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Psychiatrist (Early Childhood Program) to join our team. This position is a terrific opportunity for someone to gain additional experience and make a difference in the lives of our clients.

For over 45 forty-five years, our organization has provided mental health and holistic services in northern Manhattan for families, children, adolescents, and other adults including the elderly in a supportive and caring environment. We also have an out-patient and residential substance abuse program as well as a Therapeutic Preschool for 3-5 year olds.

JOB DESCRIPTION


Job Title: Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Psychiatrist (Early Childhood Program)

Program: Early Childhood Mental Health Services

Hours: Part-time Hybrid (Up to 8 hours)


Position Summary:

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) or Psychiatrist provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment to children ages 0–9 and their families within an early childhood mental health setting. The PNP or psychiatrist works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team—including therapists, social workers, family peer advocates, and psychiatrists—to promote emotional, behavioral, and developmental well-being in young children.


Key Responsibilities:

· Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including developmental, medical, and psychosocial assessments.

· Diagnose mental health and behavioral disorders in young children in accordance with DSM-5-TR and developmental considerations.

· Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including psychopharmacological interventions when appropriate.

· Provide ongoing medication management, monitoring efficacy, side effects, and adherence.

· Collaborate closely with parents/caregivers to promote understanding of the child’s diagnosis, treatment, and medication plan.

· Coordinate care with therapists, case managers, pediatricians, and schools to ensure a holistic approach to treatment.

· Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).

· Provide psychoeducation and consultation to staff regarding early childhood psychiatric and developmental issues.

· Engage in trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and family-centered care practices.




Salary / Compensation (Part-Time / Per Diem):

· $125 to $175 per hour depending on experience



Report to: Medical Director / Program Director

Requirements

Qualifications:

· Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited program or Doctor of Medicine (MD).

· Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry (PMHNP) in the State of New York or Current New York State medical license and DEA registration.

· Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (Across the Lifespan or Child/Adolescent Focus) or Board Certified or Board Eligible in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

· Minimum of 2 years of experience in child or early childhood psychiatry preferred.

· Experience working with families, caregivers, and multidisciplinary teams.

· Knowledge of early childhood development, trauma, and attachment theory strongly preferred.

· Strong communication, collaboration, and documentation skills.

· Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
