Overview

The PSO Supervisor provides first-line supervision of Protective Security Officers (PSOs) assigned to FPS‑protected IRS facilities. This role ensures daily security operations are performed in strict compliance with the FPS Statement of Work (SOW), post orders, and Post Desk Book requirements. The PSO Supervisor supports the Captain and Contract Manager by overseeing shift operations, enforcing standards, and responding to routine and emergent security matters.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise PSOs during assigned shifts to ensure full compliance with post orders, FPS policies, and facility procedures
  • Ensure continuous and proper post coverage, including access control, screening, patrol, visitor processing, and control center operations
  • Conduct shift briefings, post checks, and relief coordination
  • Monitor PSO appearance, conduct, performance, and adherence to FPS standards
  • Respond to routine incidents, alarms, and emergencies, coordinating with FPS and higher-level supervision as required
  • Review and ensure accurate completion of logs, incident reports, and other required documentation
  • Verify PSOs maintain current training, certifications, firearms qualifications, and fitness requirements
  • Assist with on-the-job training, mentoring, and orientation of newly assigned PSOs
  • Report adverse information, deficiencies, or performance issues promptly to the Captain or Contract Manager
  • Ensure proper care, accountability, and use of government and contractor issued equipment
  • Enforce rules governing access control, prohibited items, screening procedures, and conduct on federal property
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • (3) years of supervisory experience in armed security, law enforcement, military service, or federal protective services
  • Demonstrated experience supervising personnel in a security or operational environment
  • Meets all FPS Protective Security Officer medical standard qualification requirements
  • Valid Maryland State Police Security Guard Certification
  • Active Maryland Handgun Wear and Carry Permit
  • Current Maryland State Police approved firearms training and weapons qualification
  • Must maintain a professional appearance and comply with all FPS contract uniform and grooming standards as required
  • Prior experience with access control, screening operations, patrol and response, and incident reporting
  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
  • Respond effectively to emergencies and high-pressure situations
  • Must be eligible for and maintain required FPS suitability and access credentials

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database (MSWord, Excel, Access,PowerPoint) and Outlook.
  • Ability to write clear, accurate, and timely reports
