PS/DK/K Music Teacher and ECC Coverage

Job Description:

The Early Childhood Music Teacher PS/DK/K  is an inspiring music educator responsible for teaching music to students in early preschool through kindergarten. The teacher helps students develop their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences, including singing, moving to music, and playing instruments.


Skills and Responsibilities:

  • Plan curriculum and lesson plans for music instruction in Preschool, Developmental Kindergarten, and Kindergarten classes that foster children’s musical, cognitive, and social development
  • Take a leadership role in the weekly Morning Sing
  • Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment 
  • With teachers and administrators, integrate music into the early childhood experience
  • With teachers and administrators, plan for age-appropriate performances that include music
  • Monitor, document, and report as directed by the administration to families regarding children’s progress in musical growth


This position includes approximately 4.5 hours of music teaching per day. A reasonable amount of time, as determined by the administration, is allotted for preparation and documentation. Additional hours and duties as a coverage teacher will be determined by the administration based on daily needs.


Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in Early Childhood Education, Music Education, or Music
  • Experience working with children ages 2-6
  • Music teaching experience


Not Required but Highly Desirable 

  • 12 ECE Credits
  • Knowledge of or experience with the Reggio Emilia approach and/or Progressive Education
  • Training  in the Orff method of music education

Salary Range: 

$55,000-$70,000 based on degrees and experience. Benefits included.
