Responsibilities

The Prospect Development Associate Director conducts strategic prospect research and delivers high value research products to development officers and the other staff. This position will primarily provide prospect research to development officers who work with principal level ($1M+) and major level ($100K+) prospects and may also support development officers who work with international prospects. The Prospect Development Associate Director will also support the development of prospect strategies throughout the fundraising cycle in collaboration with development officers, Development leadership and other staff, with an emphasis on strategy formulation for principal prospects and high priority major prospects. The Prospect Development Associate Director will also perform prospect identification at the direction of the Director of Prospect Development and in collaboration with prospect management or their assigned fundraisers. The Prospect Development Associate Director will also serve as a subject matter expert for one or more advanced prospect research topics and will train and mentor other staff as needed.



Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree is required. Advanced degree and/or an educational background in library science, journalism, economics, accounting, finance or similar, is preferred. Minimum of three years of experience in prospect research in a major gifts environment, or comparable experience in financial or business analysis, library sciences, political or policy analysis, competitive intelligence, or similar types of work, is required. Experience in health care or higher education is preferred. Proficiency identifying, analyzing, and organizing information relevant to the major gifts fundraising process, or other relevant experience, is required and experience in developing prospect strategies is preferred. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel is required and advance proficiency is preferred.

Experience in international prospect research is preferred. Proficiency with Blackbaud CRM or similar CRM software and reporting or visualization tools is preferred. Experience with capital campaigns and/or principal giving programs and experience with prospect and portfolio management is preferred. Experience training or mentoring individuals or groups in skills, techniques, and methodologies of prospect research is preferred. Experience in conceiving and implementing innovative and efficient analytical solutions to address business challenges or to meet organizational goals/objectives is preferred. Must possess knowledge of research techniques, tools and methodologies, or equivalent analytical skills, needed to develop data-driven prospecting processes. Must demonstrate ability to consistently produce concise, well-written professional communications. Must possess a high level of resourcefulness and creativity in gathering needed information and adapting the deliverable as necessary. Must possess a keen attention to detail with the ability to think creatively and recognize connections between and among pieces of information. Must be a self-motivated, self-directed, and highly-organized individual who works well under deadlines. Must successfully manage multiple projects with competing and/ or shifting priorities while maintaining a high degree ofprofessionalism and confidentiality. The incumbent must be able to work effectively in a consensus-style operation that expects and promotes teamwork. Must be comfortable with ambiguity. Belief in the mission and strong ethical conduct is essential.
