Job: Director of Propulsion Engineering

Location: Denver, CO (On-site)

Salary: $200-350k DOE

(Full time Permanent position)


A rapidly growing defense & space technology company is looking for a Director of Propulsion Engineering to lead the development of next-generation propulsion systems across advanced spacecraft and defense platforms.


This is a high-impact leadership role owning propulsion strategy from early concept through flight, while scaling test capabilities and driving advanced manufacturing innovation.


Responsibilities:

  • Own propulsion roadmap, architecture, and system delivery across multiple programs
  • Lead full lifecycle development (design → integration → test → flight)
  • Oversee propulsion testing (hot-fire, pressure, system validation) and facility strategy
  • Drive system requirements, trade studies, and design decisions
  • Partner cross-functionally with structures, avionics, GNC, and systems teams
  • Build and lead a high-performing propulsion engineering team
  • Interface with customers, suppliers, and senior leadership


Requirements:

  • 10-15+ years in propulsion (spacecraft, launch, or defense systems)
  • Proven leadership experience (team building + technical ownership)
  • Strong background in fluid systems, engines, valves, and tanks
  • Deep experience with propulsion testing and system integration
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-growth environment


Nice to Have:

  • Additive manufacturing experience (metal AM)
  • Background in defense or missile systems
  • Experience scaling engineering teams
  • Advanced degree (MS/PhD)
  • Active or eligible for security clearance


Package:

  • $200k – $350k (DOE) base + equity + full benefits
  • On-site role with some travel
