Location: Kansas City, MO, On-site
Industry: Consumer & Commercial Electronics / Wireless Communications
Compensation: Up to $100,000 Base Salary + Benefits
Company Size: Mid-sized
Headquarters: Kansas City, Missouri
What They Do:
Our client is a legendary, pioneering brand in wireless communications. They design, manufacture, and distribute high-performance communication ecosystems, including GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) two-way radios, CB radios, marine radios, and emergency/weather-alert radio systems. Their products are the industry standard for off-road enthusiasts, overlanders, campers, farmers, and emergency response teams across North America.
About the Opportunity: Our client is seeking a Project Engineer to serve as the ultimate technical owner for upcoming product lines built by their global manufacturing partners.
If you are a "T-shaped" engineer who loves bridging the gap between high-level hardware/firmware requirements and low-level factory floor troubleshooting (oscilloscopes, debug logs, RF concepts), this role offers true end-to-end architectural ownership from concept to retail launch.
Key Responsibilities:
- Global Partner Interface: Act as the primary technical interface to our global factory partners (ODM/JDM) during new product development, ensuring features are engineered on time and to exact specifications.
- Requirements Ownership: Decompose complex product features into measurable engineering requirements, UI flows (screens, LEDs, haptics, audio), and testable acceptance criteria.
- HW/FW Integration & Diagnostics: Triage and debug lab, field, and factory issues using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and debug logs.
- Compliance & Certification: Coordinate test strategies and manage pre-compliance workflows for wireless and electronic products (FCC/IC/CE, UL, Bluetooth SIG).
- NPI to Production: Ensure incoming factory prototypes meet strict design requirements and deliver production-ready documentation (user guides, service specs).
What You Bring (Required):
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Engineering (with 3–7 years of electronics experience) OR an Associate Degree/Tech Certification (with 10+ years of complex electronics experience).
- ODM/JDM Management: Proven track record of managing manufacturer-designed programs end-to-end.
- Technical Stack: Strong background in hardware/firmware integration, microcontrollers, and electrical/mechanical testing workflows.
- Global Drive: Exceptional cross-cultural communication skills with the ability to drive accountability with international partners without direct authority.
Bonus Points for:
- Understanding of Radio Frequency (RF) theory, wireless operation, or IoT/Bluetooth communication protocol.
- Exposure to factory processes (ICT, FPVT, OBA) and reliability methods (HALT/HASS).
- Mandarin language proficiency.
- Ability to travel internationally to Asia 1–3 times per year.
