Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Project Engineer to lead capital investment projects with a focus on automation, new equipment implementation, and process modernization. This role involves managing 1-2 projects per year with a budget of up to $2 million. The ideal candidate will define project scope, technical requirements, timelines, and deliverables to align with business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead capital investment projects focused on automation, new equipment implementation, and process modernization.
  • Define project scope, technical requirements, timelines, and deliverables aligned with business objectives.
  • Develop detailed project plans including schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Prepare financial justifications (ROI, payback analysis) and present projects for approval through internal committees.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors, integrators, and equipment suppliers from RFQ through installation and commissioning.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience managing capital projects in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience implementing new machinery, automation systems, and production equipment on the shop floor.
  • Strong experience working with external vendors and system integrators.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop project scopes, budgets, and timelines.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment, and industrial safety standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Project) for reporting and project tracking.
  • Experience in electric motor manufacturing or similar high-volume industrial environments.
  • Familiarity with automation technologies (robotics, PLCs, vision systems, material handling systems).
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • PMP certification or formal project management training is a plus.
  • Experience with CAPEX planning and long-term investment strategy.
Work Environment

The role operates from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with less than 10% travel to vendors required. You will work alongside quality, safety, and other engineering departments within a facility of 100 employees. The work environment includes manufacturing and machining areas that may be exposed to oil, coolant, and metal residue. The company is a union shop, though this will not directly affect your duties, as most responsibilities involve floor work and regular interaction with machinery.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bluffton, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $62.50/hr.
