Job Title: Cost Control Accountant (Turnaround Cost Controller)
Location: Baton Rouge, LA (Onsite)
Duration: 16-Month Contract
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Cost Control Accountant to support turnaround (TAR) operations. This role is responsible for providing real-time cost visibility, ensuring budget accuracy, and maintaining financial discipline during the planning and execution phases of plant turnaround activities. You will act as a key liaison between field operations and corporate accounting.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Turnaround Planning
- Assist in developing detailed turnaround budgets based on project scope
- Establish Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and cost codes for accurate tracking
- Review vendor and contractor agreements, including labor rates and equipment costs
Execution Phase
- Track and validate daily costs (labor, equipment, materials)
- Perform burn rate analysis to identify budget variances
- Prepare daily/weekly accruals for finance reporting
- Manage and evaluate change orders, ensuring proper approvals
Post-Turnaround & Reporting
- Reconcile invoices and generate final cost reports
- Conduct variance analysis and provide insights on budget performance
- Capture data and benchmarks to improve future turnaround cycles
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of cost control, accounting, or financial analysis experience
- Background in industrial construction, petrochemical, or refining environments preferred
- Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Advanced Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs)
- Experience with SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP systems
