Project Coordinator (Technical)

Work Location: 12. S. Ft. Harrison Ave, Clearwater, FL, 33756

Schedule: Hybrid remote (up to 2 nonconsecutive days per week) and flexible schedule within the core hours, per County policy.

Performs professional technical work coordinating complex projects; provides expertise in one or more technical areas associated with environmentally related engineering, science, permitting, and project management assignments; takes principal responsibility for projects; performs as a project administrator, leader, or may supervise; coordinates and monitors projects from initiation through delivery; ensures targets and requirements are met; ensures that work meets technical and other agency requirements; coordinates with other County staff, subject matter experts, consultants/contractors, municipalities, and public agencies to ensure the successful completion of projects and assignments; may also perform monitoring and reporting of projects/programs.

What Would You Do?

  • Initiate, plan, coordinate, and oversee environmental and special project assignments requiring advanced technical expertise;
  • Assist with the Brownfields program;
  • Act as the environmental permit coordinator for the Capital Improvements Division;
  • Research and gather required technical data to evaluate plans and activities;
  • Manage technical assignments, including project/program planning and reporting;
  • Ensure projects progress on-schedule and on-budget, minimizing delays by taking action to proactively avoid issues;
  • Lead or participate as a technical expert on cross-functional project teams;
  • Prepare, negotiate, and manage project scopes of work and budgets;
  • Manage grants, agreements, and contracts related to assigned projects;
  • Perform other related job duties as assigned.

What Do You Need to Have?

Experience/Education:

  • Eight (8) years of technical and professional experience in engineering, environmental science, or a related field that includes one (1) year of lead worker or supervisory training; or

  • An Associate's degree as described above and six (6) years of experience as described above; or

  • A Bachelor’s degree as described above and four (4) years of experience as described above; or

  • A Master’s degree as described above. and two (2) years of experience as described above; or

  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.

  • Assignment to work a variety of work schedules, including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge and technical expertise in the assigned subject matter areas of responsibility;
  • Knowledge of project management documentation, tracking, and control processes;
  • Knowledge of general management practices and principles;
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures of project management;
  • Skill in identifying, analyzing, and isolating problems, and problem resolution;
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including communication, team-building, and negotiation;
  • Ability to coordinate, lead, and supervise work completed or performed by others;
  • Ability to anticipate, prevent, and resolve complex and technical issues arising during the course of project design and implementation;
  • Ability to facilitate project teams and bring participants to consensus;
  • Ability to manage and organize major projects and programs;
  • Ability to operate computer applications, software, and systems to enter and retrieve information, monitor work performed, and to communicate information.
