Recreation & Community Services Department as the
Senior Center Program Coordinator. This position is responsible for planning and implementing classes, programs, events, and meet ups for the senior community. It also manages the City’s Community Garden program at two popular sites. This individual also assists with budget preparation and monitoring, report writing and helping promote the Senior Center’s
programs, services, & events. The position will also lead “40 North,” a new program and event series for adults ages 45 and older.
The ideal candidate possesses strong communication and organizational skills and is excited to explore new ideas and approaches to programming. The successful candidate will be able to connect with individuals with a wide range of personalities and interests and demonstrate an understanding of the types of programs and activities that appeal to today’s older adults.

Program Coordinator*This posting is written notice of a permanent, vacant position. Internal applications will be reviewed on April 17, 2026, which is 10 working days after the recruitment is posted. - Programs various classes, activities and special events for senior adults ages 50+
- Researches trends related to senior adults and conducts surveys to assess senior’s interests
- Oversees programming and contract classes at senior-based satellite sites
- Develops and implements policies and procedures for various programs and activities
- Prepares and monitors budget for assigned area
- Provides staff assistance to Senior Advisory Commission and other committees
- Prepares reports on program operations including monthly summaries and quarterly reports
- Recruits class instructors for senior center programs
- Nutrition Program
- Acts as the Site Manager
- Acts as the liaison to Santa Clara County Senior Nutrition personnel
- Ensures the site’s proper food handling compliances are met
- Completes and submits all necessary reports and paperwork
- Develops and implements policies and procedures
- Manages provider contracts
- Contract Classes
- Creates, schedules and implements site-based contract classes for senior adults
- Monitors enrollment and conducts regular class evaluations and assessments
- Ensures proper insurance compliances are met
- Remits payment to Instructors
- Monitors Instructors and their programming
- Community Garden
- Manages the Community Garden program
- Develops and implements policies and procedures
- Prepares reports on operations
- Provides training on Recycled Water and other Community Garden policies
Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation, public administration, or a closely related field, OR four (4) years of work experience equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in recreation administration, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; ANDExperience: Two (2) years of full-time experience coordinating a recreation program(s), including the supervision of part-time/seasonal personnel. Desired Skills / Qualifications:- Experience with registration systems such as RecTrac
- Program and activity design and implementation
- Program evaluation and modification
- Conversational fluency in Mandarin, Vietnamese, or Spanish
License or Certificate:- Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain an appropriate, valid California Driver’s License.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid from the American Red Cross within 90 days of appointment.
*Required license and/or certification costs (excluding health exams) are covered within the department’s operating budget. Costs associated with retesting due to the employee’s inability to pass certification testing, will be the responsibility of the employee.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:- Receives general supervision from a Recreation Services and Community Services Supervisor or the Director of Recreation and Community Services
- Exercises general supervision over part-time employees and volunteers.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Essential duties require the following physical abilities and work environment:General office environment, attend meetings at various sites within and away from the City, and have the availability to work off-hour shifts and events as required; sit and/or stand for long periods of time, repetitive keyboarding; reach, squat, lift, and carry up to 40 pounds; mobility to lead groups in activities; ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather and temperature conditions; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
